Russian President Dmitry Medvedev says he would like to meet with "dissidents" when he visits the U.S. next week. Russian news agencies quote him as telling a group of visiting foreign experts that "I believe there are dissidents in the United States." ITAR-Tass quotes him as saying: "Let them tell me what problems the United States has. That won't be bad, considering the Soviet experience." It wasn't immediately clear if the comment Tuesday was a subtle dig at the U.S., which has frequently criticized Russia for backsliding on democracy. Medvedev has retained the Kremlin-dominated political system developed under former President Vladimir Putin. But he's also shown some signs of positioning himself as less of a hard-liner. I like that better than "tea baggers". Maybe he'll hook us up with one of those sweet AK and T72 group buy deals like Chavez. |

Quoted: Our dissidents are free to leave. His weren't I understand your point, but consider this: No fly lists, no passports issued to people on the "terrorism watch list"... I'd say that would make it pretty hard to leave. |

We are becoming more like Soviet Russia every day this Administration and congress is in control.

Quoted: Our dissidents are free to leave. His weren't Yeah, well, 'dissident' is like 'terrorist', it depends on what team you're on and who you ask. |
|
Wow. I don't recognize the world anymore. Why are the Russians warning US leadership against the evils of Socialism/Communism? Pravda scoops our MSM now. It seems like it happened overnight.

I'd say that would make it pretty hard to leave. They are still perfectly free to leave via boat, Canada, or Mexico. And if they contacted the State Dept. saying they wanted to fly with the purpose of LEAVING the U.S. I suspect we'd bend over backwards to work something out and be rid of them. Also, "Dissident" just does not have the same meaning in the U.S. than it did/does in Russia. Pretty much anyone is free to run for office, or form a political party. If Islamic extremists were able to get the votes, they would get the seats in our government. And while there may be exceptions serving time under false charges, as a general rule, anyone who is a "political prisoner" in the U.S. has been tied to acts of violence, or planning acts of violence, or giving logistical/financial or intelligence support to those planning violence. No one here is in prison for simply writing a book, publishing a paper etc. unless it's something like child pornography. Certainly not anything that's "political speech". Mainly Medvevebenebebevebedbev or whatever his name is... is just saying "American Dissidents" to needle Obama over his conservative resistance, or by giving terror suspects that status. |

You know what? At this point I can't even be sure Putin and Medvedev are good guys or bad because our journalists and news outlets lie worse than than Pravda did during the height of the cold war, foreign news sources seem to paint a more objective picture of them and direct experience with Russians here in the US has taught me they're just like we are, i.e. not enemies to be feared...
I could go into a lot of comparisons between our misdeeds and theirs but it's counter-productive if you still blindly subscribe to cold war-era opinions or blindly believe we're the good guys and they are not. |
|
I'll cruise on down to the ole convention center and hang out. Any of those world leaders have a hot wife they want to have this dissident show around town?

conservative dissidents.... in contrast with "cognitive dissonance" required to be a supporter of the current administration
|
|
Um no. Sorry Russia, we handle our own f'n problems. Stay the f out of it.
|
|
Does he realize that most of these 'dissidents' are accusing their government of being more and more like Russia? That these are the same people who still consider the cold war as ongoing?
I think he would have been better off meeting the dissidents of 4 years ago. |

I wasn't ranting at you... sorry if it seemed that way. I'm conflicted about us not living up to our treaty agreements with them to not promote NATO on their doorstep, this missile shield mess, Georgia, et. al When Putin threw the oligarchs out of Russia, the "west" turned on him. They were ripping Russia off blind, and had taken control of everything. What Putin and Medvedev are guilty of I am not too sure but I suspect we have our own share of blame to consider. I know Putin being former KGB is both a former enemy and a formidable leader but he seems more nationalistic than anything else. I can't blame him for that. |
|
Maybe he wants to hand out some stinger missiles and provide some training, you never know.

Also, if family court orders you to take 3 jobs to pay a cheating ex-wife a shit-ton of money so she can live the same lifestyle she became accustomed to when she was married to you - and you can only find 2 jobs? Guess what, it is illegal to leave the country. |

I think he sees what Political Group will be controlling the Congress and Senate in a bit over a year...and the presidency in a bit over 3......the Russians are nothing if not practical.

Aren't we the dissidents now?
Demetri, this disident would like to discuss Wolf imports... |
|
Would someone mind nominating me for this spot? I'd like to discuss Russian airdrop of relieve supplies. We can start with a few Antonov-loads of AK-74s, magazines, and cheap ammo - we can work our way up from there.

"Honey! I'm a 'dissident' now!"

If we are "dissidents" and Russia wants to help our cause (voting the idiots out of office and getting back to the Constitution), I request that we be sent young, beautiful female Russian and Ukranian ombudsmen/interprers/facilitators so that we can establish good relations with a like-minded capitalist country.

I sure hope he understands the general feelings most of the 'dissidents' have towards Russia.
I'm not quite sure that he knows. |

Putin and Medvedev aren't Communists.
(Just gonna go ahead and throw that out, since someone is bound to make that mistake in this thread) |

I have a feeling the Tea Partiers are not the Dissidents he wants to talk with.....

Putin probably knows where all the bodies are buried because who put those bodies there then had a cigarette while some lackey shoveled, Putin was KGB, it helps to keep that in mind. |

A communist, by definition, HAS TO BE A MARXIST. And the robber-baron gangsters in charge of Russia are most definitely not Marxists... |

There's a few folks in (Asian) Georgia that probably didn't care for his attitude toward dissidents, either. Face it - the Russians, along with nearly every other nation in the world, are laughing their asses off at what our nation has become. It's when they stop laughing and start drooling that we should REALLY worry. |

What the hell is wrong with you guys ? Medvedev IS meeting with the dissidents. He's meeting with Øbama. He is a dissident, an anti constitutionalist that happens to be in charge now.

I think its Funny, why not let Russia expose the 1.5 million that marched on Washington DC
