I have looked across the board, Guide tents, Cabin tents, etc. Anyone have a tent story or info??
Hitting the Allagash this fall and tired of taking the camper, its tent time.

I've seen rather large tents,,,walled type,,,,that you can use a wood burning stove in.

Also had a floor, plastic or canvas, and dividers for privicy.

Think Cabaellas (sp) sold them.

Cabelas Alaskan Guide Model.  Great tents.  Spring for the nice poles.

Sportsmans Guide sells large surplus GI tents. I always wanted one, but never had a reason to buy one. They look like great tents.

Car camping or backpacking? How many people? In snow and hi wind? A lot of tents for a lot of jobs.  What are you going to do?

Fantastic tent, we have the 8 man one- it's friggin huge. Been thru a few torrential thunderstorms- no problems.

Don't forget the floor saver and ground cloth. For cold weather, might consider the vestibule.

DAC aluminum poles are a really good starting point for a good winter tent you expect to withstand halfway decent storms, and Kelty Expedition tents are fucking bomb shelters.

The keep the wind, water, and bugs out.  Most of the cold weather worries can be applied to the sleeping bag you use.

Look at a North Face 4 season mountaineering tent.  they will take a lot of wind and snow.

We use a GP large and a Cabela's wall tent for our elk camp and it serves us well down to -20 degrees F and up to 60 mph winds.  The pot belly stoves must be burning full blast, though.

Kifaru tipi and wood stove.  Expensive as hell, but by all accounts awesome.  I use a cabelas eureka copy for winter camping, its three season, but I make up for it with a sleeping bag that fits the weather.

This. I bought a Himalayan 47. "Bomb proof" is pretty accurate. Depends a lot on whether you are looking for a tent you carry in, or drive in.

Yep.  The arctic oven.  Slept in one for several cold nights.  Get the little wood stove for it and you are set.

I've spent many nights in many different outfitter tents.
Last year I bought one of the Alaknak II tents from Cabela's and for the price I really like it!
It's the 12x20 and is a really nice tent!

Here are a couple of pics on my last outing during a rain storm...
