Ok, so I have obtained a sweet German pewter beer stein that my great grandfather had.  The stein is dedicated to Albrecht Durer (the artist) and it's got a picture of him, his house, and two other locations. I have no idea how much this thing is worth, so I thought maybe you guys could tell me. I'm wanting to sell it on eBay.

Here are the pictures of it.

Just a mark where a sticker has been

Is it just me or is it a sad day when someone will sell off their great grandfathers stein?

I never even met the guy. He also had a Hitler mustache.

I googled some of the significant words on the labels and found this:  Pewter plate of the same breed

Doesn't sound like you're going to find much monetary value in this thing.  (I am NO expert and could be totally wrong)

I'm not bashing you but, if I could make a suggestion, perhaps see if anyone else in the family would have any sentimental attachment to this thing before selling it?

I don't know, but maybe more pictures could help us determine.

You could send it to me for my birthday present, hahaha. That is nice I would keep it. I started to collect some before i left. You are not a beer drinker? I would keep it.

Might as well fill it up with your great grandfather's ashes before you sell it, since he meant nothing to you.

I'll trade you a box of 308

It's not worth much.

Look at the seam on the side...poor quality if you can see it that well.

I'm guessing your Gramps got it in the mid 1970's, but very few things from the mid 1970's have any real value unless it's a house...and it's not a house.

Why is it empty?

How large is the box, and how many rounds does it contain?

OK all you  people up in arms. This looks like some commemorative stein that hasn't touched a drop of beer.

If this was a stein he actually USED or (like the one I have from my grandpa) has his name engraved - then I would agree.

Its just a dust collector. Not everything owned by your ancestors are heirlooms or carry emotional value. Trust me. We gave a ton of shit away from my grandparents two estates.

Its too silver to be "old" true pewter with lead in it.

Probably made in the last 50 years based on the color offset printing on the paper.

The date on the thing is the birth year of the artist its commemorating.

$200.00 probably.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, $200 I mean.

Didn't they have glass bottoms that you could see through when the stein was tipped up to drink?

The original beer goggles!

Those are scenes from Nuremburg, Germany.  I was stationed near there.

post 1950, no country of origin stamping, looks like mold marks and flaws in the casting, I'd almost bet it wasn't made in Germany.

This doesn't appear to be something that would attain "heirloom" status, not unless you knew he picked it up when he was in the Occupation Forces, or some similar significance,
