[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Any one use 30 cal ammo cans instead of 50 cal

I was looking to buy some ammo cans for storage and found some 30 caliber cans that are just a little smaller than 50 caliber cans. Has anyone used these and how much 223 can you get into one.

I have a couple of 30s and they work well also have 3 50cal cans.I just put 24 boxes of wolf ammo in one 30cal can.I use the 50s for my reloads of 223 and 45.Both have their advantages.

Around 600 rounds on stripper clips, about 1300 rounds in the 50 cal. cans.

I store my long term stuff in the 50's, but they are to heavy to crate, so
I usually take a 30 to the range.
{Please No Snow Tomorrow, I need range time.}

I picked up some .50 sized cans at a recent gun show which are marked 840 CTRG 5.56MM BALL M855 10 RND CLIPS so some of those big cans are really .223 cans. I have some 30 and some 50 sized cans-whatever I could find cheap in good shape at gun shows. They both work fine-just look for cans in good shape with good seals.

Thanks for the input. I found a place on the web that has ammo cans new and used. The new 30 cal cans are $6.95. I have seen plenty of beat up 50's for that much.

I get my 9mm from [url]http://www.georgia-arms.com/[/url] It's factory reloads and comes in an ammo can 1000 rounds for $130. I'm on my third case and love it. I don't buy ammo cans anymore.

Look under canned heat. [:D]
