Between the hams, gear-heads, engineering weenies and musicians, you've probably got at least 75 percent of the gun enthusiasts covered! (Of course, that's the [i]active[/i] gun enthusiasts — the larger set of all gun owners is probably a lot more diverse).
My guess is that it's a spatial acuity thing. People who are good at visualizing and manipulating physical objects tend to be more comfortable working with loud, powerful things (FALs, Fender Twin Reverbs, blown Hemis or KW linears).
Anti-gun types, on the other hand, tend to be afraid of things they don't understand (which generally includes much of the physical world). If the world parted along pro- and anti-gun lines, I doubt there'd be many mechanics or technicians to keep things running on the antis' side.
