I know it's probably no big deal but it has been bugging me for a while now so I fired off an e-mail to FoxNews Online:

"Dear FoxNews Online Editor,

In the last couple months there were a host of articles dealing with the arrest, transportation and charges against the traitor John Walker Lindh. Many articles refer to him as "Taliban John" which bothers me a bit. If I'd use any nickname for this guy it would be "al-Qaeda John". The reason is that associating him with the Taliban in poeple's mind makes his crimes seem less objectionable. Being a member of the Taliban (which he wasn't) would make him misguided at the worst. It is not nearly as bad as the reality which is that he is an al-Qaeda trained terrorist who knowingly fought against Americans and aided our enemies. I know these facts don't remain hidden from those who actually read your articles but believe me a lot of people get their news by glancing at the headlines. Why give this guy slack and call him "Taliban John"? Call him "al-Qaeda John" instead.

Sincerely,
Me"

What do you think? Am I nitpicking when I make an issue out of this? Oh, and before you point it out I know FoxNews is not the only one to use this nickname. It's just that I don't give a $hit about the other news outlets.

Part of me hopes they don't use any terms at all.  If they must how about:

John "Presumed innocent until proven guilty" Lindh.

I am not defending him by any stretch of the imagination.  However, when the JBTs start confiscating guns and tossing people into re-education camps, the labels media organizations will stick on honest gun owning citizens may not be so kind.

I love that drawing.  It caused alot of controversy--the girl who drew it was pressured to remove the gun from the drawing, and most of the organizations who wanted the right to reproduce/publish it also wanted to remove the gun in their version.

The girl was pretty insulted at the suggestion and declined.  I think there's hope for our youth after all.
