Since I believe everything the VPC tells me, I'd have to go with an AK-47 modified for .50 BMG.

United States Navy STANDARD Missile.  This weapon is found on the AEGIS destroyers and cruisers.  It is a very effective AAW weapon against virtually anything that flies, including supersonic anti-ship missiles.

The best AA weapon is another aircraft.  F18 Hornet or F14 Tomcat.  F18 is better with ACM "dogfighting", but Tomcat has better standoff capability.

Guns are fun to shoot air-to-air, but not very effective.  Guns are better for strafing.  Best long range air-air weapon I know of is the Phoenix missile, with a 50 mile range.  My choice in a more typical ACM-range weapon would be the the heat-seeking sidewinder missile.

If I want to be realistic then the best I got is a SAR-1 with 7.62 Steel core and tracer .

Otherwise I think a 40mm bofers would be cool
just like Ned Beaty in 1941 .

The Phoenix has the range, but it doesn't have the speed or maneuverability to take out the dangerous stuff.  Make mine the AIM-120, and launch it from a REAL aircraft, F15E Strike Eagle. [;)]

Damn, I was just going to say 40mm bofors, but I'll add in the naval quad mounts on WW2 Carriers.  Amazing footage from the Marianas Turkey shoot and the Kamakazi attacks.....oh don't forget Midway or Coral Sea.  You could also probably use the 5 inch twin turret mounts forward the Conn.

Oh and our boys in the 8th AF HATED the german 88's.

Those 88's were the dog's testicles at anti-tank, anti-air, anti everything!  Fixed 88's could pick off tanks from a mile a way!  They were also super-deadly at anti-air up to altitudes of 15,000 meters either vertical or horizontal.

It would be either the Stinger, or the American quad .50, mounted on a halftrack, I suppose.

Did any of you guys see the documentary showing mujahideen shooting down Ruskie jets and helicopters with Stingers? Lots of cool, but ominous footage.

Has anyone seen the Mike Dillon(? I think) video showing him(?) shooting at radiocontrolled airplanes with his quad .50, loaded with tracers.  He was complaining that due to a quirk in the weapon system, you tend to "write figure-eights" in the sky with your stream of half-inch tracers(instead of shooting straight.)

Also very cool.

For the oddball pick, the Lahti 20mm antitank rifle gets honerable mention. This from a Finnish(?) website, about the Winter War.

Sprint Missile - accelerated at 100g, achieved a speed of Mach 10 in 5 seconds and had a nice Enhanced Energy (Neutron) Nuclear Warhead.

NOBODY CAN OUT RUN THIS ONE and the NUKE warhead, it just has to detonate in the general area.

I would have to say the ASRAAM or AIM-9X launched from any good fighter jet. Both are wicked missles that have thrust vectoring allowing them to turn on a dime.

A correction, the M163 (SP (that would be "Self Propelled" ie: on the M113A1/A2 chassis) version of the Vulcan Airdefense Weapon System) has a 20mm M61 cannon NOT 25mm as previously posted.  The M167 was the towed version.  The M247 (Sgt York) was supposed to be the replacement for the Vulcan.(never happened)

Keep pestering me, I got lots of cool photos to share, Vulcans, Redeye's, Stingers, and other high dollar shoot 'em ups! (I just have to dig 'em out of the boxes and scan.)  [:)]
