There was a movie that came out in 1976 called LOGAN'S RUN.
It was a science fiction piece set in the future. Society had become a utopia, you could have anything you wanted. There was only one catch. No one was allowed to live past age 35. The government killed you when you hit 35. This health care plan reminds me of that. |

My concern isn't the rationing, it is the years of massive deficits and cost overruns that are sure to come as a result of not having the guts to limit care. Everyone will try to outdo themselves in compassion to curry favor from the voters, so we will get liver transplants for alcoholics, mental health benefits for addicts of all varieties, coverage of experimental gene therapies and expensive anti-viral cocktails for the politically correct disease of the moment. Motion pictures like Lorenzo's Oil, and Philedelphia will do more to decide what is covered than any rational decision making process. Just put some sad sack kid with an affliction on Oprah and watch the politicians trip over themselves to see how fast they can flush away limited resources.
Failure to control costs will be more of a problem than rationing... at least initially. Hell, how many years have we known that SS and Medicare are unsustainable? So what do we do? A prescription drug benefit...outstanding. This is shameless vote buying at it's worst. Folks should be taught from an early age to take care of themselves and their family. They should be taught to save. People who rely on the state to take care of them are in for some rough times. Anyone who thinks the "rich" can foot the bill for this is retarded. Anyone who thinks that there are hundreds of billions in savings there for the picking that will cover the tab is crazy. Anyone who thinks other people's money should be forcibly taken from them and given to someone else is of the same moral equivalence as a slave owner. I doubt 5% of the population feels this way, so the thuggery of mob rule will continue until the ideal of equal protection under the law becomes a priority. FO! |

No one in Washington wants to acknowledge one basic fact.
They are promising the impossible. They are stating they intend to provide more and better healthcare to more people than are currently recieving care. They also are stating the intend to do it at a "lower cost" than things currently cost. They promise that the quality of the care they will be giving to all these people will not decrease compared to todays standards. What they are promising is not physically or fiscally possible. What they will deliver will be something far far different than what they are promising. |

A few positive things about this:
1. People save more for retirement so they can pay for medical care somewhere when they are old. Good for them, bad for the economy (and Obama gets the blame). 2. People with money decide to re-locate to places that treat older people with money (includes China, India, etc.). Good for them, bad for the economy (and Obama gets the blame). 3. People examine the health care plans of Congressmen, Presidents, retired officials and government workers and say "Hell no!". The elites fancy plans get canceled by the voters. |

They have set a maximum age for major operations and procedures, but will gladly pay for a transgender surgery because it's a "mental health/quality of life" problem for people suffering being trapped in the wrong body.
