Wife and I wanted to get out of the heat of Phoenix so we decided that a retreat to 7,000 feet might be just the trick. We drove along the Mogollong Rim and then camped at a remote lake. Here are some pics:

The Forest service was doing a controlled burn:

We stopped at Clear Creek on the 95 and I caught a couple of little crawdads:

Blue Ridge Reservoir:

My wife was absolutely fascinated by the cows on the way to:

Breakfast pic (chorizo and eggs with cilantro, onions, and cheese):

Bucket o' delicious crawdads that a nice gentleman gave us:

Thank you. It's actually a Herter's from West Germany. My uncle gave it to me. The trigger is nowhere near as good as on a Ruger, but it goes bang boom every time and you can't beat the price. I think I'll start carrying it more, but I need a better holster.

When I was stationed out at Luke, we used to head out to Bear Canyon Lake.

The Rim is beautiful.

I've recently discovered Louis L'amour's books and a lot of his stories take place in the Muggy-owns.  Now, thanks to you,  I know what he's talking about and it sure is beautiful.

My dad used to live in Payson (located within the Mogollon Rim), that whole area up there is beautiful!!

Funny sign there in town at a liquor store that read "Rim Liquor".

Might be. Weren't all that many people there. It sure would be nice if it stayed that way.

I hope you were able to avoid all the people. I wish I would have hit up Blue Ridge this summer.

There were very few people where we ended up. There were a lot of folks all over the Blue Ridge area, especially at the reservoir. Summer's not over. It's not too late to get up there and beat the heat for a weekend. I think we'll go again over Labor Day weekend.

I love going camping on the rim - seldom do we not see elk, deer, and a coyote or two.  To get out of the heat and up in the pines is always a welcome thing to do.

Glad you were able to get out and have some fun.

I love camping up there.

There is a smaller, painted sign closer to the street, which is a little more "on purpose".

Payson is a really nice placce. Loved hiking around and hearing all the elk up there.
