I have always been active. Sports as a kid. Running 10 years ago for a few years (40 mi/week). Then heavy weightlifting when I got sick of running but that stopped a few years ago when I started law school. No time or energy for those "recovery days" when all you want to do is eat and sleep.
But now, I'm heavily into cycling (with some weight training/pushups, flutters, pull-ups etc.). I have lost 20#s recently riding 4-5 times/week 25-60 mins at a time. I love the aerobic aspect you get as with running but it's more engaging negotiating gnarly trails. Even the indoor trainer is fun--I can watch a movie or TV and not even notice the time. Chime in. |

Drinking beer and eating chips while watching football is strenuous enough for me.

Been trying to get back into my body building program, but it's tough because it's pretty intense. At least 2 hours a day just lifting. Then another half to full hour of running. When I find the time now, it's hard to find the motivation.

Quoted: Alternate days lifting weights and swiming 2000 meters. View Quote Where do you swim? At the "Y"? At a school/university? How long does it take to do 2000m? I have always been a weak swimmer but would like to improve. Too bad it's just damn inconvenient to go to a pool to work out. |
|
I swim at the Y, takes between a half hour and 45 minutes. I do mostly freestyle and breaststroke. I've been doing it for a while now, I am trying to get into shape to make the minimum requirments for the Air Force Academy. Being a computer nerd, space geek, and gun guy dosn't exactly qualify as athletic [;)]

I ride my bicycle to stay in shape. I do a lot of the local races and ride at least 5 times a week. I do it cause I enjoy it, and it beats driving to work.

Good ole Army PT Mon., Wed., Fri. at 0600. Push-ups ,sit-ups, and 2-4 mile runs are the norm.
Then I do heavy lifting 4 days a week. I used to be heavy into bodybuilding. I ate nothing but large amount of bland, high protien, high fiber foods. Pretty much the same stuff day after day. I lifted 5 days a week really, really intense. I ate, slept, lifted...that's it. NO booze or junk food at all. I got up to 6'0", 225pds, 8-10% body fat. All this Army running has slimmed me down to 205pds. Oh well, my heart and lungs are in much better shape! |
|
Round is a shape isn't it? So yes I am in shape. I just eat and eat to get that way.

Soloflex. Four nights a week for 13 or 14 years now.
That's me in the commercials. Really! [;)] |

I do dash into the kitchen from the bedroom and dash right back just about everytime a commercial comes on, however!
Then I need a nap! Eric The(Fatso)Hun[>]:)] |

I should also mention that I decided to limit my sugar and carbohydrate intake. No 2-3 Coca-Colas/day and no frozen pizzas 3 times/week. I try to vary things but eat a lot of grilled chicken (no skin--white breast only) and BIG salads. Eggs are also fair game as is whole wheat, rye breads. High protein and complex carbs while limiting the sugar has really made me feel better. In fact, the sugar may be having the biggest effect. If I even eat one cookie or a small piece of cake now, I have to drink water with it or I feel "sugared up."
BTW, I still like to drink, just not as often, and booze more than beer. Feels less bloating. |

"I do nothing all day, and then I rest" , just kidding! Seriously, I run couple times a week, ride the bike(both mountain and road) rest of the days. In season here on long island here, Im very physical on my job working outdoors on the golf course so I always lose like 10 lbs. when the season gets started. I too ride the wind trainer in the basement with the TV on when the weather is bad but I cant say i enjoy it.

I currently lift 4 days a week and run 3 days a week, usually between 2-3 miles. That's a minimum. I'll occasionally run after I get done lifting as well. If my knees are really hurting I'll substitute a bike or stationary bike for the run. I'm down to 22 minute 5 K's and benching about 300 at 5-9 170.

Combination of P.T., some weights, running and some swimming with fins.

How do I stay in shape? I own a van that isn't worth fixing, so I end-up walking 6 miles each way to work when I can't find a ride. Part of the walk is through some hilly woods. That will get your heart going. If there wasn't a Wendy's on the way to work, I'd be in even better shape.z [:)]

I go to the gym 5 days a week. Lift weights and use machines, run on the treadmill when my knee lets me(Airborne life has caught up with me), ride a stationary bike, use the eliptical trainer. In the warm weather I like to ride my mountainbike through the woods. I feel so much better when I'm excercising regularly, it gets to be an addiction for me...so much so that I feel bad when I miss a day.
Maybe I should get a life... |

just another road warrior.
hilly ohio terrain with a 42x53 and a 13-21 cluster. poundin' out the miles while playing dodge-bob with peterbilts has been a way of life since 1972. raced from 1972 to 1997. the crashes got too brutal! lol! |

Riding mountain bikes, running, snowboarding, skateboarding, occasional dirt biking, gym. I do a combination of these when I'm not injured from any particular one.

I currently lift 5 times a week. This summer I was running 3 times a week for 3 miles, but when it got cold I lost interest. Still run from time to time, but absolutely detest it.
|
|
I do some running, but my main form of exercise is martial arts training (American Kenpo Karate) at least 3 times a week.

Well, before this thing fades into obscurity...looks like 58% active--42% inactive. Even from this small sample it looks like the AR-15 membership is significantly active. Likely much more so than the general public. Probably says something about the type of person whom is involved in shooting in general--active, outdoor lifestyle; military types. Interesting.

Hard corps skiing 2 days a week now, used to be my job. Off season, I walk 18 holes twice a week.
I get a lot of weight training carrying the wife around on my back, pulling out he wallet for our 19 year old college student, and jumping to conclusions. OT, but have any of you also realized that you are now saying the same shit your Dad said. Saying things that you swore on all that was holy that you would never ever say to your kids. LOL [:D] |
