Regardless of when the footage was filmed, the music 'videos' were made in the '80s. From back when MTV actually was about music and showed music videos 24/7, and bands actually made videos about their songs.

Not sure about that. Usually when people think music videos, they think MTV. For good reason, because MTV popularized it and was the only Music Video channel. Truth is, there were alot of live performances filmed LOOONG before MTV. Ed Sullivan, Old Grey Whistle Test, Woodstock. All these and a WHOLE lot more than I can think of at the moment. |

Not necessarily. There were music television shows before MTV. "The Midnight Special," for instance, began in 1972 and while it featured mainly live performances, they showed recorded performances from time to time. Later, they pieced together concert, studio, and TV footage (some from "The Midnight Special") to get something on MTV and "Friday Night Videos" before they produced a "real" MTV video. And some never did make a dedicated video. |
