Spectre, the topic was tongue in cheek...  My first evil rifle was a pre-ban CAR-15.  I just happen to love AKs as well and think that is utterly amazing that you can buy a tried and true and 100% reliable battle rifle for $150.

As far as the LEGP goes, Anti pulled the plug on that one because HE thought it was too cost prohibitive.  He never came to us and said this is what it will cost, who is willing to put down a significant deposit to see if it is worth doing.  There were quite a few people lined up and ready to go on it - me included.

Problem is there are too many (not all) on this board who have AR-on-the-brain and can't see the inherent quality and purpose of the inexepensive com-bloc weapons that are great for collecting and shooting to this day.  For $150 would you rather have an SKS or a 10/22 to protect your family and property with?

Yeah Gerry, I'm still in the area.  Beginning of this year sucked as bad as last year did.  One of my favorite uncles passed from cancer on January 6th.  Thank heavens for he was suffering terribly and I'm glad he is at peace.  Two days later one of my fraternity brothers died.

On a cheerier note, its been a month since I've spoken to the ex or seen her and it doesn't hurt so much any more.  Two and a half months since the engagement ended and I had my first date since the break-up on Friday night, and it felt GREAT!  At first I was worried that there would be some guilt or something for moving on with my life... sounds crazy, but that's how I figured I would feel.  Instead we had a great time, enjoyed her company, we'll be seeing each other again next week and when we kissed good night there was definitely fireworks.  Nice to know the equipment still functions.

Back to the thread, it was a joke people, lighten the FRIG up!

Gerry, I see Brian about once a week, sometimes more.  Store has been a little slower lately, which I think pleases him.  Although he loves the business, his 70 hour weeks EVERY week take their toll.

And anyone who wants to spout off about the AR is welcome to join me at the range and we will run 1,000 rounds through an AR, an AK and an SKS and we will see how many jams/ftf/ftes et cetera each have.  No cleaning allowed during the test.  You can use whatever ammo you like and I'll use the cheapest dirtest steel cased surplus ammo out there.  I'm betting the AK and the SKS come out far ahead of the AR.

Like I said, I love my ARs, but anyone who can not see the inherent superiority of the AK and SKS designs in terms of reliability is fooling themselves.  Yes, the AR is more adaptable, more accurate and sexier.  But if you aren't able to to properly maintain it during prolonged tours in the field without support, what good is it as a battle rifle?  For most of us it will never matter, we plink and have fun and maintain them and pray they never need to be used for anything else.  But in terms of reliability and dependability, ARs lose.  That's not to say that they suck, because they are fine rifles, but they do not have the track record that the "commie crap" does.

Besides, they are a fraction of the cost, cost less to maintain and are cheaper to shoot and they are FUN!

The only thing I own more inaccurate than my AK is my SKS [;)]   But, OTOH, Plateshooter has the most accurate SKS I've ever seen! ( and the best looking)

What class warfare?  Fltri98 is a friend of mine, we tease each other...  We don't insult each other, at least not maliciously.

Yes, I am a Mason.  I am also a practicing Catholic.  I won't insult your fraternal order, so please do not insult mine.  I do however realize that many of the misconceptions concerning Masonry have been propogated by my own church, so let me put things in historical perspective for you.

Masonry has its roots in the Knights Templar.  As a KoC, I'm sure you are aware that the Templars were one of the Catholic church's military orders established to protect the pilgrims and traders entering the Holy Land.  I'm sure you also know that the Templars possessed a writ from the Vatican giving them extraordinary powers to ordain priests and warrior monks, to levy taxes and other powers usually limited to the church itself or governments.  Well it seems that one of our beloved Popes was a bit corrupt and conspired with the King of France to discredit Jean Jaques DeMolay and destroy the Templars in order to seize their lands, eliminate their influence and restore the treasuries of the Vatican and France after they have been depleted through corruption.

On Friday the 13th, of October I believe, the Pope ordered all Templars seized and tried by the inquisition.  They would receive a quick death if the confessed to crimes against the church and God.  Under extreme torture some of the knights caved and confessed.  Before his death, DeMolay recanted his confession and was cruely put to death.  His sin, being a better Catholic than a corrupt Pope.

Many of the Templars escaped and made their way to the British Isles, in particular Scotland where they were given sanctuary by Robert the Bruce.  The fraternity of Masonry was begun as a means for the Templars to associate and continue their work behind a veil of secrecy neccessary to survive the wrath of the church.

Until recently it was an excommunicatable sin to be a Mason and a Catholic.  The KoC was established to provide Catholics with an option and a means to keep Catholics out of Masonry.  This is not to say it is not a noble and worthy organization, it does indicate however that your history and tradition is rooted in the bigotry the church once held toward the Templars which was the result of the dishonorable actions of a man who did not deserve to be called Pontif.

As I said, I am a Catholic, spent 12 years in Catholic schools and very nearly entered the seminary.  Sometimes history is not pleasant, but we should be aware of it.
