It is my civic duty to report to the board on the status of my Grandfather clock project.

So far, so good, only a couple boo-boos. At this point the initial assembly of the case is completed. No sanding, staining, or varnish work as been done yet, its raw wood (cherry).

First pic shows the case in full profile.

Second pic shows the Hood detail.

I still need to purchase the movement ($$$$$) and install it. I have the bevel glass and need to install that also. Come to think of it I'm probably only 50% done.[>Q]

Tomorrow I"m going shooting, the hell with the clock for a day...

So, did all of the pieces just come in a box and you just have to glue it together or what?

Yes. The parts are already cut. Some of the trim parts are too long on purpose so you have to trim them down with a mitre box, sand, etc. Many of the parts are glue-screw. Some are just glue-clamp. A few are fastened with glue-brads. I don't have the serious woodworking tools that would be necessary to build one completely from scratch.

Looking fine - the fits are beautiful from what I can see, nice wood too.

Seems like a good time in the project to take a range break.

Have you given any thought to movements yet?

Can you buy them at Walmart?

Yes, since the case is from Emporer I'll probably buy one of their movements. Emperor doesn't actually make their movements they buy them from a German firm. I belive Emperor does make their dials, some are quite ornate.

I'm leaning toward their top of the line movement with the brass tubular bells but if you have suggestions please let me know.

Probably...seems Walmart sells everything these days. Maybe they will get into the 'escort' service someday [:P]
