National Media ignored reporting that the two law students who helped to stop rampaging gunman......were armed

No mention of it, but I wondered how they took him down if they were unarmed.

Course, three unarmed SF NCOs took down the idiot that was sniping at his unit here at Ft Bragg one morning.  They were out doing PT and heard the gunfire.  They moved quietly through the woods, caught him reloading and pounded the crap out of him.  Next morning on Good Morning America, when they interviewed the NCOs, one had his foot bandaged, and the others had their hands wrapped up from beating on this knucklehead.  

Believe it or not, the Provost Marshal considered charging them with excessive use of force despite the fact that this kid had killed a couple of soldiers from his unit and wounded many more.  Local pressure stopped that, finally.

Note to self:  If in this situation, actually shoot killer to death with legal CCW to ensure media reports it.

Huh.  Now THAT'S unusual.  

Gee, I hope it's not the start of a trend in journalism to overlook the benefits of an armed citizenry.

Yep 9divdoc's right. All I can find was 3 articles in CNN, and not one of them even mention that the people who captured the shooter was armed. Just that the shooter was armed with a 380 semiautomatic.

GRUNDY, Va. -- Two students wounded in a shooting rampage at the Appalachian
School of Law last week have been released from a hospital.

Rebecca Brown, 38, and Martha Madeline Short, 37, were discharged Sunday from
Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn., said hospital
spokeswoman Amy Stevens.

A third student, Stacey Beans, 22, was upgraded from fair to good condition.

Stevens said all three were expected to make a full recovery.

The school's dean, L. Anthony Sutin, Professor Thomas Blackwell and student
Angela Dales, 33, were slain in the spree.

Student Peter Odighizuwa, 43, has been charged with murder and attempted murder.
Police said he had recently flunked out of school.

I also addressed this here and mentioned I was able to find a reference to guns being used in an MSNBC stack article and with that a reference to the fact that Katie Couric did interview on of the three, Traci Bridges on her morming show.  After that zip, zilch, nada.  I only was able to find that MSNBC article through a chat group on Second Amendment Sisters.

I sent all this info to my local newspapaer columnist who sometimes writes on gun issues.

I was channel cruising last night and actually saw the issue being debated (actually brought up within a gun debate) but I didn't know which news network but believe it was probably MSNBC.

The combatants were the Attorney General for the State of Utah and Ms. Something or other from "Groups Against Groups" (GAG) (or whatever) from the University of Utah.

The GAG rep smirked a lot and conveniently attempted to forget the background checks necessary to buy a firearm, blah, blah.

The Utah Attorney General thought people who used guns in the commission of a crime were criminals and opined that had the students been able to "carry" inside the classroom instead of having to run to their cars for weapons maybe lives would have been saved.

Turns out one of the heroic students was female.

For what it's worth the Utah Attorney General kicked GAG's ass.

Utah is deserving of the coveted "F-" award from the Brady Bunch.

On CNN's CrossFire yesterday Utah's Attorney General pointed out that the crazy guy was stopped by armed students.  He was defending the concealed carry laws in Utah.  He pointed out that one (they?) student had to run to their car to get their weapon and return to confront the guy.  Had they been carrying maybe fewer people would have been shot.

Media Ignore Fact That Gun Owners Stopped School Shooter

Two of the three Virginia law students who overpowered a gunman in a fatal
school shooting were armed and used their weapons to disarm the shooter. Yet
of the 280 stories written about the shooting, a mere four mentioned the
fact that the heroic students were armed and used their guns to halt the
rampage.

That's according to Dr. John Lott, a resident scholar at American Enterprise
Institute and the author of the widely acclaimed book "More Guns, Less
Crime."

Writing in Friday's edition of the New York Post, Lott reported on last
week's shooting at Appalachian School of Law. Nigerian student Peter
Odighizuwa is accused of killing the dean, L. Anthony Sutin, 42 - a former
acting assistant U.S. attorney general and campaign worker for Bill
Clinton - professor Thomas Blackwell, 41, and student Angela Denise Dales,
33.

Noting that the rampage was widely covered in the world's media, Lott wrote:

"As usual, there were calls for more gun control.

"Yet in this age of 'gun-free school zones,' the vast majority of the news
reports ignored the fact that the attack was stopped by two students who had
guns in their cars. The quick response by two of the students, Mikael Gross,
34, and Tracy Bridges, 25, undoubtedly saved multiple lives," Lott reported.
According to Lott: Having just returned from lunch, Gross was outside the
law school building when Odighizuwa began shooting. Bridges was inside,
waiting for class to start.

When the sound of shooting erupted, panic ensued. "People were running
everywhere. They were jumping behind cars, running out in front of traffic,
trying to get away," Gross said.

Instead of joining in the chaos, Gross and Bridges ran to their cars and got
their guns. Joined by an unarmed Ted Besen, an ex-Marine and police officer,
the three men approached the shooter from different sides.[/b]

[b]"I aimed my gun at him, and Peter tossed his gun down," Bridges recalled.
"Ted approached Peter, and Peter hit Ted in the jaw. Ted pushed him back,
and we all jumped on."

Wrote Lott: "What is so remarkable is that out of 280 separate news stories
(from a computerized Nexis-Lexis search) in the week after the event, just
four stories mentioned that the students who stopped the attack had guns.
"Only two local newspapers (the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Charlotte
Observer) mentioned that the students actually pointed their guns at the
attacker."

Lott cited the liberal, anti-gun Washington Post, which reported that the
heroes had simply "helped subdue" the killer. The leftist, anti-gun New York
Times, not surprisingly, noted only that the attacker was "tackled by fellow
students."

"Most in the media who discussed how the attack was stopped said: 'students
overpowered a gunman,' 'students ended the rampage by tackling him,' 'the
gunman was tackled by four male students before being arrested,' or
'Students ended the rampage by confronting and then tackling the gunman, who
dropped his weapon.'"

Such selective reporting is not unusual, Lott noted. "In the other public
school shootings where citizens with guns have stopped attacks, rarely do
more than one percent of the news stories mention that citizens with guns
stopped the attacks."

Wall of Silence

Lott cited research showing there are 2 million defensive gun uses each
year. "After all, if these events were really happening, wouldn't we hear
about them on the news? But when was the last time you saw a story on the
national evening news (or even the local news) about a citizen using his gun
to stop a crime?"

Such "misreporting actually endangers people's lives," Lott concluded. "By
selectively reporting the news and turning a defensive gun use story into
one where students merely 'overpowered a gunman' the media gives misleading
impressions of what works when people are confronted by violence.
"Research consistently shows that having a gun is the safest way to respond
to any type of criminal attack, especially these multiple victim shootings."[/b]

They should have shot the SOB, then there would be no doubt about how he was stopped.  But then, they would have crucified the good guys for having guns.  No win situation.

Not only do they ignor incidents where a gun is used to thwart crime, when they do mention that a "hero" with a gun, they always finish the story with a 3 minute backhanded anti-gun speech about how dangerous these situations are, the police never recommend such actions and they finish with some bs statistic regarding guns and saftey. The stats are always HCI lies.
