1) I am leaving tonight for New Orleans to go gamble.  My GF has wanted to do this for some time.  Anyone have any suggestions as to where and where not to go?

Do they have "boats" in New Orleans?

I really don't want to go (spent all of my money on Christmas gifts) so I am on a budget.

2) Thank God LA has reciprocity with TX (CHL), or I would not take her at all.  How are the LEO's out there?  I am not trying to sound like a trouble maker (because I am not!), but anybody have any bad experiences?

thanks,
nojazz

Well, there is a Harrah's on the MS River at the end of Canal Street. I believe it is the biggest, most obvious casino in the area. I haven't gambled there so I cannot advise on the gambling. But, if you go up to burbon street which is a few blocks away you can get some damned good food. Try the Alligator, you will like it.

LA police are really nice, except those in New Orleans. Watch your speed within the Orleans Parish/County.

A Few Notes:

1) Louisiana is one of the most Gun Friendly States in the country. In fact it's motto is "Sportsman's Paradise"

2) You will need new shocks after driving through Louisiana. The roads haven't been paved since the War of 1812.

3) Technically, it is illegal to remove water from the Saint Tamanny Parish which is on the north side of Lake Pochtrain. new Orleans is in the Orleans Parish on the south side.

4) Louisiana has a very good Self-Defense law. You do not need to retreat if a person is entering your residence or your vehicle which is legally considered constitutionally protected just like your home.

Sorry, I can't help you with that. I do not yet have a CHL. In Florida, just like Texas we have to be 21. 1 more year. But, I haven't been pulled over when I had 2 guns on my gun rack in my rear window. As I said in another post carrying in your car doesn't require a CHL. Carrying openly is also legal from what I can tell.

But, New Orleans is a liberal area so you may wish to make sure everything you do is 100% legal. The rest of LA is nice and conservative.

Harrah's is okay... I've been quite a few times, it isn't Vegas or anything.
My entire family is from N.O. and my uncle seems to think Boomtown is a better casino, but I haven't been there.
Harrah's is just more conveint to the Quarter, if your into going down there.

2nd what the poster says about the roads... They are pure $hit.

I have been to Harrahs and highly recomend the buffet. It's located on some prime real estate thats within walking distance to everything. Bring your walking shoes... you'll have fun.
