I know it's not a popular point with much of ARFCOM, but damn it, Ruger makes some great product.

Yeah, I know, Bill Sr. dicked us over a bit, but he's dead now and the company seems to have had a change of direction with respect to black rifle disease. From what I hear, Bill Sr. was a bastard from the word go on a host of issues (he was, after all, a yankee) and no friend to BRD victims, but he really was a great designer.

What triggered this maudlin post? Well, a couple weeks ago I got a like new P89DC with 50 rounds of 9mm for $300 –– ugly as shit, works flawlessly. Accurate, lightweight, and gobbled over 200 rounds of varying brands and bullet types without the slightest hint of trubba.

I have seen P series pistols in pawn shops for around $200 ... $200!! How in the world can you beat the value?

Anyway, I am impressed and I insist that you be too.

I still kick myself for selling my factory folding stock Mini-14.

But I got an SR-556 on order.

I bought a MKIII 22/45 for my MKIII because I was told it would fit. It doesn't. I called Ruger to buy the actual 22/45 grip. Yeah, they won't sell it to me. Instead I have to overnight my "upper" because those dumb fucks decided to serialize their barrels instead of the frames for reasons that God Himself only knows. Then on top of that they make it ridiculously expensive to the point that I should have just bought a whole pistol from an dealer in town. Fuckity fuck fuck fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, they do make a decent product.

I've got a 10/22 and GP100, both are great. My buddy has a Mini-14 with stereotypical shotgun accuracy.

I like Ruger. They make some great stuff...I carry the LCP daily now, either as primary or BUG, depending on where I'm headed.

I had a KSRH-9 44mag,it was a nice gun. Very nice fit and finish,only thing I did not like was the big warning label on the side.

I actually shot my P-89 this past weekend. Did pretty good until I succumbed to the urge to turn my cap around 180 degrees, hold the pistol sideways, and shout "Bust a cap in you, yo!" before each shot.

I've had many Rugers over the years,they all are very over-bulit guns and you'll not likely break one unless you try...and at that you may have your work cut out for you!

I just got an SP-101 and it is a nifty little .357 for woods use.

As a degreed manufacturing engineer, I can really apreciate the advances that they have made in the evolution of manufacturing processes for firearms.

With that said, I had one of their M77 bolt actions. Couldnt rid myself of that miserable piece of shit fast enough.

Rugers I own (in order of acquisition):

1) Blackhwk .357 "made in the 200th year of this nation's history". Birthday present when I turned 14.

2) M77 Mk II left handed in .30-06. Capable of 3/4 MOA accuracy.

3) Bearcat .22, bought 2nd hand for my sons.

Ruger's sin was attempting to compromise with the antis when they had the momentum. He suggested a ban on mags with over 15 shot (not 10) capacity as a compromise. But, most other gun companies sought compromise with the antis, Ruger just gets most of the heat.

I'm a fan, love their rimfires, I have 3 10/22 variants, 3 bearcats and plan on making the SR 556 my next purchase.

I tried their auto pistols and hated the triggers but I do have a lot of respect for their reliability. A work buddy asked me if I would test fire his dad's P89 9mm that had sitting in a sock drawer for 10 years and had rusted badly.

The slide was gritty and difficult to pull back, I figured it would malf from the get go but the damn thing ran like a top without me even oiling it.

Ruger does make good shit, but they do it in such a lazy way. Any slob and make a gun that weighs a ton and can contain a nuclear explosion, but the real skill is making a gun that is both exceptionally strong, but also lightweight. Ruger does not do this, instead they just add more and more metal until they get it where they want it. To me, that shows a degree of laziness. Engineering is expensive but metal is cheap.

That said, I've got experiance with the 10/22, the MKIII, the SP101, and the P90 and I think they're all nice weapons, they're just so damn heavy, especially the P90 and SP101.

I'm a Ruger fan, I've owned several over the years; only sold one. Well-built, affordable, available at almost every gun store in America. What's not to like?

Yes I am well aware of their shortcomings and their past political stupidity, but in my view their recent steps into the small carry and black rifle market mean they are moving in the right direction. They are the biggest civilian firearms manufacturer in the US, after all.

This. I had an EAA snubbie in .357 and that was a royal PITA to fire. It was only enjoyable if I shot plain-jane .38 loads.

Oh, another thing, I think a Glock 17 is roughly the same weight as a Ruger SP101. Fully loaded, the Glock will be a few ounces heavier, but for me, that's no question. 18 rounds of 9mm trumps 5 of .357 for essentially the same weight. Although, the G17 isn't nearly as concealable. If I was gonna be out walking the line or in a situation where I run the risk of facing multiple assailants, I'd take the Glock. Every time.

IMO, the 10/22 is the perfect .22 semi auto rifle.

As long as you use Remington/Winchester/CCI in it. federal doesn't work worth a shit.

I have three - love the conversions. Have the .38./.357/9mm, the .22/.22 mag, and the .45 acp/.45LC. Basic, useful, accurate, and reliable. Fired 50 rounds of .45LC yesterday.
