N.C. State student accused of creating a 'monster'

Posted: Jun. 12, 2009

Raleigh, N.C. — Raleigh police arrested a North Carolina State University student last week who was accused of creating a "monster" out of construction barrels and placing it on the side of the road.

Authorities charged Joseph Carnevale with larceny for taking materials from a construction site at a roundabout project to create the monster.

Very cool indeed.  I expect to see more as they will rip off his idea all the while telling him he was 'wrong'.

Yep, stealing and destroying other people's property to make something "cool' is perfectly okay.

I knew one of you guys would pop up.  Read the story.  Private construction company property.   Why didn't he go out and buy his own barrels? He's a thief with lots of free time on his hands.

Ain't no use getting all butthurt over vandalism and such.
Hamlin Construction said they got enough publicity to pay  for their barrels and don't want to press charges.  They even want him to make another one.
City doesn't own the barrels anyway, so screw them. Wait, they need the money.
The real monsters in NC are in government anyway.

Barrel art nets arrest, notoriety for NC student
"His 1997 Volkswagen Jetta is almost completely covered in hot-glued beer bottle caps."

I guess hot glued beer bottle caps is how they roll in Indiana
Now, since he's done similar art before and posted it on his web site, the tightass DA has additional evidence to prosecute. Hey, he's an artist not a master criminal.
A very inventive artist at that.  Pretty cool.

I don't think anyone is saying that stealing those barrels is ok, just that the "monster" he made is pretty cool. I have to admit I'd laugh my ass off if I saw that on the side of the road

Actually, I read the full article in the paper and the construction company was cool with it. They got a lot of publicity which outweighed the cost of the barrels. The company was not interested in pressing charges. The police, on the other hand, are charging him.
