I was sitting here thinking about whether I wanted to eat the last two oreo cakesters with a glass of milk, or have my last Shiner Bock.  I'm trying to lose a bit of weight, so "get both" isn't really an option, and I don't like having too much food/drink before bed because I get an upset stomach in the morning.

So men of arfcom, if you had to give up one of the two - either desserts of all kinds, or alcohol of all kinds - and have the other in its place, which would you give up?

Desserts would include all sorts of ice cream, cake, cookies, candy, etc.  Alcohol is self-explanatory.  The deal is that when you would normally enjoy a cookie, or an ice cream cone, you would have a beer instead - OR, when you would normally enjoy a beer, or fine whiskey, or a glass of wine, you would have some dessert instead.

For me, alcohol isn't that important, but I don't think I could give up ice cream.

<I scoured google for a suitable pic....so this ant eater will have to do>

I could give up both and not be bothered much by it....I don't eat desert usually nor do I really drink all that much anymore.

Well, what if dessert is made with alcohol?

But I like the ideal of a birthday beer cake.

Would rather have booze.

Himbeergeist is awesome as a follow-up to a meal. I just wish I could find some available in the US. I have seen one source, but they want $50+ for a bottle, and I don't want to drop that kind of cash on something that might turn out to be shit quality - compared to what I enjoyed during my time in Österreich, and thus what I am expecting. Plus, I thought the regs on shipping spirits interstate were iffy.

I've really been craving some Chambord for the same purpose, but just can't bring myself to pay $30-$40 a bottle at the moment.

ETA - My response is right in line with DK-Prof as well, it seems.

I guess it depends on the dessert and the drink. I love cheesecake and chess pie and that's about it as far as sweets go. But there's so many wonderful drinks out there, some of which are good for after dinner. I'd go with alcohol.

Quoted:
Sometimes, alcohol IS dessert.

In fact, twice last week I had a nice glass of sambuca while others in my family were having cake, or creme brulee, or whatever.

Shit!  Sometimes it's dinner

I would give up the alcohol, actually had to for health reasons nearly a year ago.

I like deserts more anyway.
