I'm looking for some recommendations on HDTV antennas.

I dropped my cable today and the cheap POS bunny ears I purchased a few years ago aren't working well.

What are you using and how well does it work? Cost? Where did ya get it?

Best thing you can do is make your own, I made one out of aluminum rods a peice of 2x4 and cable adapter. you can put it in the attick. it works better than anything you can buy....  below is an example. I have an extra one if you want to pay shipping.... lol



the above antenna works great. You will not be able to beat it, I would suggest you use a booster to boost the signal if running through distance of cable, you can find them for 10-30 dollars. My diy antenna like the one above picked up 36 hd channels when it was in use. I have since went back with cable because internet package etc etc...

Looks like a fun project. How much better would you say they work at pulling in a signal?



 

I'd suggest a visit to http://tvfool.com  enter your data and see what stations you should be getting, how far away they are and what frequency they are on.  Your rabbit ears were VHF and after the DTV conversion, many stations moved to the UHF band.  If you are looking for an indoor antenna I'd check out the sticky post on indoor antenna review here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=25

ETA, the DIY homemade antennas referenced above are spoken of favorably most places I've read.  I If I recall correctly, they are primarily UHF although I think I've seen plans for a UHF/VHF combo.

Trust me, build the diy antenna for pennies, mine picked up UHF and VHF a total of 36 hd channels. it will work better than any of those antennas you can buy for 30-100 bucks.. I will say add a booster after then antenna, they run 10-30 bucks.

There was a thread a while back that had a link showing how to build one of those.  I made one just for the hell of it.  Will have to try it out one of these days.
