I don't like unshrouded firing pins, so that in itself looks weird...

Whoa! That endmill had more chatter than a terrorist cell.

That would go back with a "Are your QC people frigging blind?" note.

Tooling marks, In woodworking they are called mill marks but the principle is the same. They are cased by the rotating cutter scooping out the material as the workpiece passes by it. Those are unusually deep.
They must have increased the feed speed to crank out the quantity during the high demand, at the cost of a fine finish.
In cross section, they resemble ocean waves as a kid would draw them.

It's from a Bushmaster XM15 E2S, an older post ban gun, shouldn't have been cranked out I wouldn't think. This going to cause me trouble in the future? Aside from the unshrouded firing pin and probably improperly staked gas key, etc, etc.

Causes the hammer to catch on the firing pin which can damage firing pin retaining pin.

Yeah yeah yeah.....  Some kid had it for sale for 700 with 10 mags and less than 50 rounds through it.  Actually looked like it had never been fired.

Hope it doesn't pull a Glock on me!

Don't listen to this man.

Those chatter marks won't affect the reliability of your rifle.
