From another thread: "Would you support legislation to require microstamping on all semiautomatic pistols with identifying marks which copy the information to discharged ammunition?"

I was just thinking about how this would go, were it to be passed. Obviously, it would spread from autopistols to other gun types, but it would lead to even more legislation to support it. For starters, merely registering receivers would no longer be sufficient; they would have to register bolts (slides in the case of autopistols) to identify the breech marking to its owner. Think what that would do to AR fans.

Eventually, it could even lead to attempts to ban revolvers, on the basis that they don't leave spent brass lying around for the required ID.

Could also lead to a ban on steel-cased ammo, on the grounds that it could wear away the identifying mark.

Anything else?

Obviously I don't support this, which is why I want everyone to consider its hidden implications.

What about those bags you can velcro to the side of your AR that catch brass?

Just wait until the primers all expire next year.

How about all those lever and bolt actions? How about  just making reloads that won't bring the bolt back all the way on a semi.

If they were somehow able to magically make that happen in secret and everyone's ammo stashes expired we could see the "It HAZ Begun!" happen for real. Thats alot of $$. But then nobody would have any ammo.

Then we would see crossbow uppers for ARs. Like this.

I guess it would be time to get out the potato gun.
