Im down here in Tucson for a few days and after class went to the Saguaro National Park. Walking down the trail minding my own bidness and saw this guy. My next step was gonna be on him! Only about 6 foot long! And no I didnt scream like a little bitch! I just shit my pants in stoic silence!

This morning I stepped in dog shit on the living room floor. At least I wasn't bare foot.

Western Diamondback.

I used to catch them with my bare hands.  I was stupid.  Catching them didn't scare me..... It was releasing them that I found tricky.

I also ate one.

a group of us were testing a land nav course some time ago.. working in teams of two, we were to verify location and bearings of a couple locations.....

before we even made it to the first spot, we ran into half a dozen rattlers.  seemed like ever where we went, rattler here, rattler there....  running around in fatugues and jungle boots..

no one else saw / heard any snakes that day...

I have flash backs to that day when ever I see one...and I do every now and then on the bike path just down the street from here.

I didn't know that snakes wore fatigues and jungle boots.

I had a similar experience with a 36" timber rattler once. He was trying to go uphill (to my left) and slipped onto the path I was occupying. There  immediately occurred a 48" vertical separation between us... and I learned the 'cartoon physics' trick of changing my direction in midair.

Your rattler is a handsome one!

Thanks for the photo, rattle snakes are neat.  They will let you know when to stay away.   Respect them, but enjoy the fact that you saw one.

If you saw one , there were probably another 10 you never noticed . Welcome to hell  Arizona . The diamondbacks aren't too bad , look out for the Mojave's and the Sidewinders , they blend in much better and have a bad habit of napping til' you actually step on em' .
