Just got back from Walmart. Good find, they had 100 rd value packs of federal .223 for $40 and this new .22 for $15 for 500 rds. Has anybody shot this stuff yet?

They are 40grain Solid, not jacketed at all. They look like they are well made, and $15 for 500 is a good price as of late. They are all individually boxed too, which I like, makes it easier to grab a box and go I think.

I'm optimistic, I know federal has been coming out with some newer stuff lately, so hopefully this lightning .22 is good!

Lucky you! I went to my local Wal-Mart today in search of ammo, and all they had was shotgun shells and one box of 357sig.

I hope the Lightning's are better than they were about fifteen years ago.  I shot a couple of boxes from my MKI and they leaded the barrel something bad.  I still have one of those boxes left after all these years but have never shot any since.

That is the first I have seen a .22 cal $15/500 pack.  Local Wallys here had the $13.47/550 and now the $11.47/375.

I think ammo production is catching up.  Local Walmart has Winchester and Federal bulk packs of .22 LR, and bulk packs of Winchester white box 45 ACP, 9mm and 380 ACP.

New packaging, not a new product. I used to shoot lightning when I was a kid. I didn't take long to realize that it was crappy ammo. I haven't shot any on well over 30 yrs.

It may be a good product now, but it was so crappy then that I would have to have some gifted to me before I would try it again.

I shot a shitpot of lightning out of my old micro-grooved Marlin. No issues and it shot OK. That was back in the 70s when a box cost 30 cents at the local Western Auto.

Don't recall seeing it for at least a decade, maybe two.

9mm, 40, and 45 have all increased in price here... 45 $2 and $40 by about $3, about $2 on the 9mm.
