I hardly hear any discussion on Aidid losing the battle in Mog and the war itself. He lost his life and his clan suffered because they depleted too much of their inventory on the battle with the Rangers, Deltas, and Night Stalkers. Prior to this battle, he was the strongest clan. Stupid fool put too much in one battle and was substantially weaker afterwards fighting the other clans. He would probably be still alive today if he disengaged to reserve strength.

I also have reservations about the assertions that tanks would not be helpful in that environment. Most think of the German tiger columns in Russian open country plus M1s in Kuwait. However, the German were very succesful in using tigers to control urban battle fields. They did this flating key areas much like one would create a firebreak. M1s could easily do this at the second crash site as there wasn't a question as to who had air superiority.
