Thank you Detective.

I recently came across some old magazines (periodicals) and reading the prices of ammo was very sobering. Thought I'd scan these up for you guys to see.

That wasn't particularly cheap back then either. I was paying $90/1000 for Wolf 7.62x39 and .223 in 2004. Now I wish I'd had the foresight to spend a lot more on ammo and less on guns.

That's my whole point. I predict that in 5 years we'll all be saying how cheap ammo was in 2009.

Two cases of wolf, $85 each, and decided this stuff will aways be cheap why purchase more

Sheeeeee-it.

I didn't even own a gun until a month before the election, but I'd heard the legends about cheap ammo.  Still hurts to see that, though –– since being late to the party, I've never paid less than $9.97/20 of Wally World Remington UMC....

I don't think there is any box of ammo that is less than $3 a box today. Maybe a few select .22lr, but that's it.

Ammunition has been a better investment than most companies stocks.

Nah, the price will go back down eventually.

The market will only support these prices for so long.  Right now, ammo is expensive because people are still buying every single round that comes available, due mostly to the panic induced by all the "ammo tax" bullshit coming from GOA and other scare-promoting groups.

GOA is well known for blowing things out of proportion because it keeps your money flowing to them.  If nobody was afraid of bans, GOA would have no place in the world.

Realistically, there is very little chance we will see any sort of ammunition tax or ban.  This, combined with reduced action in Iraq/AFG, will cause the prices to fall very slowly until they even out close to  the levels we saw 5 years ago.  Just like any other consumable commodity, the manufacturers will continue raising the prices until people stop buying... the problem right now is that people keep buying no matter how high the price goes.  There has already been a trend throughout the shooting world from shooting ammo to hoarding it.  People are switching to cheaper calibers like .22 and 9mm.  Eventually this will hurt sales enough that the prices will have to come down.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to call me delusional but just look at what happened with gas prices and all the folks claiming it would never be cheap again.  Prices fluctuate but certain doomsday whiners will always claim that we're screwed forever.
