I ride a 2008 Buell Firebolt XB12R and I would like to take it to the range. Does anyone here use their bike to get to the range and how do you secure your rifles to your bike? I have cargo tie downs on the tail of my bike that I may be able to secure a rifle case to or fabricate a case holder of my own. I'm just curious how others do it. I open carry daily on my ride to work, but haven't carried long guns (yet).

If its an AR, can't you just seperate the upper and lower and pack it in a non-conspicuous looking duffel bag?

I strap the rifle case to the rack on my KLR650, but if I'm riding my GSXR I have to limit myself to a subgun because it fits in a backpack.

Sometimes i'll put my Uzi in my back pack with the barrel taken out and go to the range.

I dont think i'd mount a case to my bike. Too risky, if it breaks or falls off and it gets runover by something.

As mentioned in another thread, I just throw it over my shoulder (like a regimental soldier :D) and ride.

When I had my Sprint I wanted to mount a ATV type or similar rifle case on one side of the saddlebag mounts, but never got around to it. Now that I have this GSXR project, and a lot more time to get in on some machines at work I think I will fab something up.

I think that guy with the AK was in the NoVa area.

Looks alot like the bridge that crosses from VA into MD...

bet some Montgomery County officers would be pissed to see that.

It varies by State. Here in South Dakota we can transport rifles if they are in a case, handguns are a no-no unless you have your concealed carry permit.

Back when I was in college, I 'secured' a duffle bag full of guns to the back seat of my bike with ratchet-straps & rode to the range....

Now, I would probably use a more hard-sided case...

my M16 when broken down fits in a backpack, same with most other guns i'd take with me on a bike. that's how i do it on the 1125R.

on the XB12X though, i've got the hard cases and those make for interesting loads

I have a Road King and use the rear luggage rack, my saddle bags or on my person with a sling.

The scabbard like they use to use on the military bikes is something I would like to try as it was a very secure and classic way to carry the long guns.

I have an 07 XB12R and was thinking about getting an ATV hard case and mounting it to one of the passenger pegs for the same reason. Would be cool to see a sport bike with a scabbard on the side.

I have used a large ALICE pack for my 870 once on a hunting trip but I like to take multiple rifles when I go to the range (not all break down easily). I have a tactical rifle case that holds 2 rifles and I can manage to get 2 plus a side folder in it that. I would be able to wear it on my back but I think I'm going to homebrew something up with a stick welder that will secure it to the side of my bike at an angle but be removable after the range trip.

I carry mine wrapped in a poncho liner, inside a Wilson bat bag, slung across my back. Last summer I was stopped for speeding,(55 in a 45) and the LEO never questioned the contents of the bag, and let me off after the obligatory warrant check.

I don't have a bike, but even my 24" fits well in the bag I padded and cut. The bag says Gibson, and sports several old school type band patches. I could take it almost anywhere without freaking out libtards who don't know the law. I would be worried what LE would think if they found my 24" HBAR with a large optic on top hidden like that.
