It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while, but haven’t had the balls (figuratively speaking) to go through with yet. Please share any experiences you’ve had, pro or con. Any mood changes, decrease in strength, or “performance” problems afterward ? Any sudden interest in Choreography ? Let me know. Thanks.

I don't have personal experience but my brother-in-law had one about a year ago.  Briefly, he said he was sore as hell for about 4 days afterwards but he didn't notice any adverse aftereffects.  If anything, it helped his "performance" since he wasn't worried about having an accident.

Hope this helps.

No, but the wife threatened to give me one if she catches me downloading porn again.

Yes, I slept through it (of my own chosing, they dont knock you out). You waddel afterwards and feel very much like staying put. As far as peramanent....everything stays the same except there are no "sperm in your seamen" (pun intended to all sailors)

All in all I am glad I had it done, 2 kids are enough

Mine was done in the surgeon's office.  As he twisted my balls around in my scrotum, he noticed that my body was supported on the table only by my head and heels.  He says, "Hey, guy, relax."  I squeeked in a high pitched voice, "This is as relaxed as I am going to get, go on and get it over with."  And he mumbles something about dropping one of my balls.  I say, "You better find it and put it back, I own lotsa guns."  Well, finally it was over.

As far as after effects... was sore for a few days, out of commission.  Swelling.  Was laid up.

After that... all is OK, and no FTF or FTE noted.  Same reliability as before.

You DO need to go back and have things checked later.  There HAVE been cases of the vas's growing back together if simply snipped.  They put little clamps on them now.

No big thing.  You take it easy for a few days and spew in a cup about a month later and that is it.  No more worries.  Go for it it is not big thing.

Only in a firearms forum would you get a FTF and FTE when talking about "performance"

I guess it runs 100% [:D]

I returned from deployment in 1976 the day AFTER my daughter was born.  The Boss was NOT real happy about my absence during her preganancy.

She decided that was enough children and gave me an ultimatum...I get vasectomy or no sex?  Which will it be?

Easy decision.  Quick trip to the doctor's office, where he and his nurse did the deed.  I was a bit dopey from the pills he gave me to take before I showed up...and he gave me a local to deaden the pain.

The operation proceeded quickly and it was over in oh...say fifteen minutes or so.  The weirdest part was when he was pulling the cords out to snip them off...sort of like he is trying to pull your vocal cords out from there.  Minor discomfort.  Nothing too bad.

Minor pain pills after that...plus an ice bag at night for a couple of days.  To add insult to injury, the damn ice bag broke open the first night and leaked cold water all over the bed, the wife and me.  Damn embarrasing!

Overall, it is not a big deal.  Damn sight easier for you than the missus.

Oh...and one more thing:  Make SURE you are careful and follow the doctor's orders on safe sex.  You will NOT run the pump dry for a few weeks...and she CAN get pregnant again during that period.  That's why they will want you to take in samples for analysis.

Have fun!

had it done about 9 years ago and if I had to do it over (never)have you heard of edematitis or something close like that. the first year was fine and the last 8 years has been pain almost everyday. I have to wear a jock strap 24 and 7 plus soak in a tub at least once or twice a week and with sex or extreme physical activity like running I'am in extreme pain for at least a week after. and guess what pain pills do not work because of the area their is to much liquid and pain pills just don't work so I take them anyway on those days and soak in the tub with hot water and have to elevate one leg when I sleep to keep the pressure off.

my chose after 4 years of the run around by doctors is that I would have to have another surgery to correct what they screwed up.
so I live with the pain right now and after I retire hopefully next year off to the surgen I go.
9 out of 10 turn out ok but that other 10% if it happens to be you sucks.
I tell people if you want the bad experience just let me kick you in the balls real good every couple of months and thats what its like. now go ahead  because what the heck the odds are in your favor, but thats why they tell you sometimes it just doesn't work out.

Procedure done on a Tuesday some years back, took Wednesday off, was back driving a flatbed semi truck on Thursday, back when I still drove heavy equipment delivery. Pulled out the stitches myself after 5-6 days (all 8 of them). The actual procedure: was given a Valium shot, had my dick painted yellow with some damned cold iodine solution, followed by a local, then in and out in 20. Buzz lasted the rest of the day. The rewards are huge; only one kid, (can't top perfection), no condoms, sponges, diaphragms, spermicidal foams, IUDs, and best of all, no moodiness from Mrs. Arquebus after getting off the pill. Absolutely NO changes in my performance, repertoire, or technique, and no secondary affects in drive, attitude, emotional quotient, etc.* No sweat, just had to take precautions for about 90-100 days after, (LOTS of little reserve forces, apparently...), then the fun really began. Another point to consider; tubal ligation on the part of the woman has the potential to cause substantially more problems than you going under the knife, all that extra plumbing in the hormone zone, I suppose. Bottom line; do it, it's well worth it.

Best of luck, and good humping.
*I do get a little misty-eyed at the end of Saving Private Ryan, but I can make no connection between feeling that way and having my hydraulics altered.

I had the procedure done about 3 years ago and i would do it again. It feels pretty good not worrying about getting the wife pregnant for 2 kids is great, and also not needing to use a rubber, sex is more enjoyable not haveing that worry hanging over your head. The procedure is a outpatient procedure you go home the same day. I had my primary care physicain do the deed. I would say the worst part was the novicane shots to my balls to knumb up the area, but once that torture was over with it was smooth sailing except for when they carderized the ends of the vestephrine vains before they tied them off, it was kinda weird i was laying there and i started to smell burning flesh and then this puff of smoke rose up in the air and i said shit I am on fire, It is kinda funny know but not at that moment that brings a new reality to flaming balls. But anyway After everything was all done I went home and milked the procedure for all i could, the good wife waited on me hand and foot for a couple of days and i sat back in the recliner and played nintendo for about 3 days. It was great. The pain was gone after about a week. Be careful after the procedure because those little spermies are still there, just wax the monkey quite a few times and have sex with wife using a rubber and in about a month you will be on your way to shooting blanks. Take the doctors advice and follow all they say about what activities you should restrain from and take the pain pills and the pain will be tolerable.

Mantis:

I had mine done 6 years ago.  I am 35 now.  I took one of the Tylenol plus codine that they gave me and threw the other 39 in the trash.  No big deal.  I was tender for a few months, but back in service after 1.

Here's the funny stuff in the order that it happened.  First, my 5 year old son walked in my shaving the "target area" in tha bathroom.  Jeez.  Needless to say, I did too good of a shave job.  Hint:  You only need to shave the TOP of the area, not 360 degrees.  How should I know?  The doc said to shave it, so that puppy got shaved.  Anyway, the nurse was suitably impressed as she was washing me preop with the iodine.  The operation wasn't too bad.  I have had visits to the dentist that made me more cross-eyed.  The worse part of the whole deal was growing the forest back.  Talk about crackers down the pants.  Holy cow did that itch!

When the procedure was finished, the two removed pieces of tubing were on the stainless steel tray that the doc used for his instruments.  I got a funny look from the nurse when I said, "Looks like the hors d'ouvres are ready.  Where's the toothpicks?"  Honest.

Anyhoo, the idea of a vasectomy is much worse than the actual execution.  Doh!  Did I say "execution?"  My wife and I tell our friends that we no longer have sex.  We re-enact sex, kinda like the Revolutionary War re-enactors.  We get together, make a little noise, shoot off some blanks, nobody gets hurt and everyone goes home.

Go for it pal.  Those rubber things (I can't remember what they're called) are a drag, so make a sacrifice in the name of your second favorite hobby.

Peace.  Out.

Mine was done about 2 years ago.   If I were you, I would ask to be knocked out first.  I think I was pretty much white knuckles.  It did feel like someone was pulling them out of my chest!  That said; I would do it again in a heart beat.  I drove myself to the doctors office 30min away and drove back afterwards.  Have your wife do that!

On a side note; I did mine with out my wife's true permission.  Not a good move.  She started talking about having a third child and that was enough to send me packin to the doc!  She later said she was glad, but disappointed that the child bearing part of her life was over.  She was still mad as hell at me for not "including" her.  Not one of my brightest moments in our marriage.

I had mine two years ago last week. Only side effect is my right boy is still sore at times, I guess they call it congestion. I'm going to ask my doc about it next month at my checkup.

I was acutely sore for only a couple of days, lingering aches for about six months, and just occasional twinges now.

Worst part though was my wife and I discussed it at length beforehand. Right afterward she cut me off from sex, and now we're separated and in the process of divorcing. I got to use my ability to shoot blanks exactly 7 times in two years.

I'm half tempted to sue the bitch for putting me through that for nothing.. . [pissed]

A couple of co-workers had them a few months ago. One reported a dull ache in his scrotum for several months during exercise. According to them, they weren't getting much sex anyway, so no real change in their sex life :)

As for the increased testicular cancer risk after a vas, I've never heard that. Testicular cancer hits men early in life, in their 20 to 40s, around the time they get vasectomies, so the timing is most likely coincidental. Plus, only a few thousand cases of testicular cancer are reported each year, while I personally have handled about 50 vasectomy specimens in 2 months (and no testicular cancers). Testicular cancer is also a cancer we have "cured", ie the survival rate is very high. Testicular cancer would be the LAST concern I had after a vasectomy. LAter.

I had one back in '79.  I drove myself to the hospital, had the vasectomy, and drove myself home.  The doctor had told me to put ice packs on each side of my balls.  As it turned out, the high-tech ice packs that I had bought were not frozen, even though they had been in the freezer for a few days.  So I opted for a can of frozen concentrate orange juice on one side and a bag of frozen okra on the other.

Anyway, I had internal bleeding and brusing, but within a few days I was back to normal.  Long term effects?  I can honestly say that it improved my climaxes/orgasms... they are much longer now than before.

I wouldn't worry much about having one.  They have it down to a science nowadays.

Funny you should ask.  I got one yesterday.  Shave your sack.  As someone says, they only go in at one little point, but since they don't tell you that before hand, do the whole thing.

LOTS of cold betadine solution and a nurse flipping the boys back and forth while she swabs everything down.  Definately not a sexual turn on.  Then towels around everything with just your nuts sticking out.

I had the "scapel-less" surgery.  A needle to numb things, but it doesn't numb everything.  Then they cut a little hole and stick in a catheter with a fiber optic and the instruments to cut the vas deferens and then cauterize the ends.  The clamping was definately uncomfortable.  It will curl your toes.  The sound and smell of the cauterizing was a little disconcerting, but I didn't feel anything of that.  Then just a little neosporin and a bandaid before I drove home.

(this is the edited portion)
I was wrong on the procedure.  Its a little more involved.  Instead of a scalpel, they punch a hole in the scrotum with a sharp pair of forceps.  Then they grab the vas deferens with them and pull it out of the hole where they proceed to clamp, cut and cauterize it.  Then they shove it back in and go for the other side.  Now I know why my toes curled.  Oh well, I'm getting better.
(end edit)

Last night I sat around with an icepack until I went to bed.  Took one percocet but that was because I also had a sore back and figured I wanted to sleep.  I took today off and I'm supposed to take tomorrow off too, but I've got a desk job and I'm going back to work tomorrow.
A little sore today.  We'll see how the rest of the week goes.

Did mine about 5 yrs ago.  Little pain, did the ice thing on the first day, and the codiene worked fine for the 2 days that I needed.
Just make DARN sure you wnat no more children. I was 42 when I had mine done, not so much that I wanted no more children, I just dont want to put them thru college on Social Security.  As far as performance goes, no change but it sure is nice to do it when the urge takes hold and you dont have to check the raincoat supply first.

Got mine in 78 not too much discomfort but the shock afterward is bad [shock] looked like a hammer was used to beat everthing into submission.I don't know if I would want to go preban again it's much better than using a condom or birth control pills for the wifey. No more worrying! Of course I'm divorced and using a condom again but it's still comforting to know your shooting blanks....[:D]

I had the same problem as jc121. Severe pain
started out with swelling and did I say pain!
When I could not stand it any more (8 years) I
had my epididimus removed from both sides.
Constant ice packs for 2 weeks and I was good
to go, no problems now for 2 years.

Had mine thirteen years ago.  One office visit, no shaving, no nurse, no swelling, no black & blue.  He told me no physical activity for a couple days.  I felt OK after one day, so I raked leaves for a while.  Mistake.  Major aches for three days after that.  I don't know what it would have been like if I hadn't raked leaves, but it couldn't have helped.

No change since except psychological.  No worries.  Two kids are definitly enough for anyone.  I have three teenage daughters.  Sheesh.  Learned the lesson late, but I'll still keep # three.

Thanks guys, lots of good info here.

I have a pretty strong stomach (in fact, I can ALMOST look at a picture of Hillary without gagging), but the thought of sharp objects down below was making me nervous.

Here's another question:

When you go back for the follow-up visit to see if the little fellas are still swimming, how much time can elapse between when the sample is produced and when it has to be tested ? In other words, can it be produced at home or does it have to be at the doctor's office ?

Make sure the clinic has a power backup generator.  One of my buddies had the power go out at the clinic half way through the proceedure.  They had to wheel him up to the window to finish.  He didn't relish having his feet in sturrups and his john thomas displayed in the window.  My only advice:  Listen to the doctors advice:  Don't move for 2 days no matter how good you feel.

Definitly follow the post op procedure. Do not pick up heavy things. My "boys" swelled up and I had to take a week off. It has made the wife much more responsive since we don't have to worry anymore.

BTW, I stopped after (0) kids.
