It could be set up like this. Charge $1-$2 (to cover actual costs like checks and bank fees)per transfer (for any amount of money) instead of a percentage like most places. Funds can be either mailed (USPS Money order, check whatever) or paypal directly into account. As soon as funds arrive item shipped and tracking number sent. Once item arrives if another tracking number is not sent in three days (inspection period) proving it is being returned funds are mailed by check to the seller. It could also be used not just in the EE but for anyone here who wants to use it for gun stuff. If need be I can volenteer or one of the businesses here could do it. It can be regulated and monitered by the AR15.com guys.

Seriously, the escrow idea is a good one. Any interest accruing from the funds could be used to offset the cost of setting it up/ running it. |

Yeah I like the idea myself of an escrow service. But - who's going to do it? Something like this can turn into a full time job.

Wonderful idea.
I wouldn't have to worry about the wife finding my stash. I'd just send it to my account and wait for it to grow until I had enough for that 50 Cal. upper. |

How many people would actually use this service though? It would take longer for both the buyer and seller to receive their goods/money.
The item would have to be sent to the escrow service. The package would have to be opened and the item inspected. It would then have to be repackaged and shipped again when payment arrived. I know I wouldn't do all of this work for $1.00, then there is the extra cost of shipping the item again, shipping materials and other misc costs. It just seems like more of a hassle than anything else. It may sound good on paper, but I doubt anybody would actually use it. Also, who pays for everything when somebody backs out of the deal and refuses to pay up, the seller? |

You misunderstood Ponyboy. buyer sends money to Escrow. Seller sends Item to Buyer direct (or thru FFL) when Escrow recieves funds. Funds then sent to seller when Buyer recieves and inspects shipment. As for who would do it. As I said above I would and the $1 per transfer plus any intrest in the account would cover expenses for the account and checks and Mailing costs.

Not a bad idea.
I think you are looking at more like $2.50 a transaction to make it work,though. I know I asked for something like this on a guy with a preban BM two weeks ago on his first post. Several folks on here I send stuff to before I receive their $$. I sent all the AR parts kits for the group build before being paid and so far only one person can I not acct for a payment from. Would be nice for big $$ items with newbies. cpermd |

I think this would be a great service. I only wonder if there would be any liability issues if a deal "went bad" and one of the parties got pissed off enough to drag the site into it.
But, I would volunteer to manage this if it actually came to be, it would be nice to provide a good service like this to everyone. |

I would charge thousands for a purchase escrow agreement that held up in all 50 states...and everytime there was a problem claimed with a product or deal count on at least a few more K before the holder would know what to do (I would go mandatory binding arbitration as opposed to investigation or court action)
If you found a lawyer cheaper he wouldn't be worth hiring for it. Escrow gets expensive, even when the holder gets to keep the interest. You could just pay the start up for the agreement and esign it on each transaction (figure 10k or more for start up, and many hours per week depositing funds, notifying sellers to send, getting okays from buyers, and sending funds) You could then have the mandatory arbitration be AAA small claims, costs and fees shared equally by the parties, but the costs would be so high that most parties would have to settle. |

hi everyone! member of old ar15.com returning to the fold. I sold a camera through ebay using an escrow service(the buyer was nervous); it was a total hassle. the service kept the funds for two weeks (earning interest in theeir high yield account),and when I finally got the check, it was dated two weeks previously! Also it was expensive.
lesson learned and recomdations: sums over $500. service must be in the ar15.com family. escrow fee must be reasonable. I think its a great idea, and a new source of geld for ar15.com |

Nathanial Hawkins, Did you look at some of the fees? For $500 dollar transaction $20-$27 For $1000 $30-$52. These dollar amounts are easy to come up with when dealing in firearms. What I am talking about is $1-$2 per transaction.
