I think you're exactly right.

What irks me are the telemarketers who call and act like a long lost friend. Some idiot called and asked for my wife by name, and I asked him who's calling and he says, "A friend of hers" and I ask, "You got a name friend?" and he says, "It's Steve." and I ask, "Steve who?" and he says, "Steve So-and-So." so I say "She's not here but I'll tell her you called." So later I ask my wife who Steve So-and-so is and she says she never heard of him. Steve called back several times and asked for her again and eventually she talked to him and found out he was a friggin telemarketer! She ripped him a new asshole over the phone and that was fun to watch.

Same thing has happened in reverse. Womenz call and ask for me acting like a friend and my wife doesn't know who the hell they are. She's thinking maybe they're an old girlfriend or something.

One time a telemarketer was getting snippy with her over the phone so she handed the phone to me. The asshole had the balls to yell at me to put my wife back on the phone! My only regret is that he hung up on me before I finished thoroughly chewing his ass out.
