Hi all.

After lurking around this board for a while, doing some research on just what I wanted to build, it's now time for me to say 'hello'.  I learned quite a bit from the many topics here, and not all about the AR!  I ended up with a bushmaster lower and a J&T kit.  Here is a picture (I hope) of my rifle:

It does have a flat top upper, and I was hoping to get some suggestions on what optics to put on.  I do want rather high accuracy (I did get a free float handguard), but I'm not too sure what would work well to get sub-moa.  Also I need to know what mounting would work to get over the front sight.  Pictures on any similar configuration would help quite a bit too.

Thanks for your help.

Dave

btw, I don't like carrots.

Thanks Big Bear,
I beleive I do want magnification for this.  Since AR's don't like to be alone, my next one will be a carbine and I'd probably go with a red dot for that one.
Stormbringer, I took a quick look at the ELCAN and it does look nice.  Almost as much as my rifle, but still quite nice.  I'd be tempted to drive up to Niagara Falls and pick one up in Canada, but I know that could cost me a whole lot more...

Hi DonR,
 Nope, just regular sized Dave.

Big Bear,
Ah, the budget...  I'd prefer get something I'd be happy with now instead of buying a cheaper one followed by 'the good one'.  Should be cheaper in the long run.  My first thought was around $300, but I'm starting to think it will be double that.  I don't want to get too close to $1000 though.  I'm not too confused yet, so I must still be missing something.  The hard part will be trying to get a good idea what the image through the site will be, and of course just how much magnification.

Thanks.

Damn foiled again! Beat me to it.  BTW that's an awfully fancy picture.

You can get a compact ACOG with M16 base.  That way you can mount it on your carry handle or buy and adaptor and mount it on your rail.  They are great little scopes that look great on ARs.  There are 1.5x, 2x, and 3x models, with three different recticle choices (dot, triangle, crosshair).  Target acquisition, even at short ranges, is very quick.  The additional accurancy makes an AR much more fun to shoot.

If you are looking for a more powerful scope, a 3.5-10 or 4.5-14 Leupold is within your price range.

Thanks guys.

I do have a bit more learning to do:

Yes, this thread probably should have started in the General firearms, and ended up in optics.  Sorry Avtomat.

I'm also going to learn more about scopes.  I wasn't thinking scopes at the last gun show, but I definitely will be 'scoping' them out at the next.

1GUNRUNNER: I also dabble in photography and figured my first photo posted of my AR should be kinda nice.

I feel that it is my civic duty to warn you all: D_a_v_e is rapidly heading toward a downward spiral of all-consuming EBR ownership!

Is accute magaholism next?

Based on suggestions from this board I ended up buying an Armalite mount and a Leupold scope. I have been extremely happy with this setup. If you are interested I could post a pic of the setup.
