I had this discussion with a buddy last night. He says his m-16 gets too hot after around only two mags of sustained fire. I've only fired an m-16 a couple of times, but I remember firing more mags than that.

Would that be hair clips or stripper clips. I'm sure you must have meant magazines. Once at a  night live fire range I did a big no no. I loaded four 30 round magazines with all tracers and put the M16 on auto. It looked like a laser beam coming from my position. After the four magazines were empty, firing them as fast as I could the barrel was a deep dull red and you could not hold the M16 by the handguard for a while because it was so hot.

I don't recommend doing this and would not do it again. Its not good for the barrel and I guess I could had a cook off. Fortunatley I did not have a malfunction.

Hrmm, I have fied a lot of magazines through am M16, no clips though. Sorry, cant be of any help there.
