(Fort Worth, TX) –– A Fort Worth 18-year-old who was killed Tuesday was apparently shot in self-defense. That's the way detectives explain what happened to Derek Splawn who died from a shotgun blast to the head. Investigators determined that Splawn was armed with a baseball bat when he forced his way into an apartment near the Fort Worth-Keller line. When a man in the apartment saw him approaching, he feared for his life and fired one blast from his shotgun, killing Splawn at the scene. Police say Splawn knew the apartment's occupant but they're still asking questions to learn what the dispute was all about.

Glad I don't have to clean up the mess.

Everyone knows from the experts here that shotguns are completely ineffective for self defense.

That poor, misunderstood Yute.  He had his whole life ahead of him.  Now he'll never be the head of a corporation.  He may have had problems in his past, but he was trying to get his head on straight and live a virtuous life.  There was no reason, NO REASON this murderer should get off.  That poor boy was shot over nothing, he was just inviting the guy in the apartment for midnight baseball down at the Y.

Hell, I'd have had to shoot him twice.  Once for the baseball bat and once for cleaning up the mess.

Yep....

Obvious case of self defense vs an armed assailant....

No pics?  I'm remebering yet another reason I do not like the American media.

I would say a baseball bat is a serious enough threat to justify deadly force.  Good call not to prosecute.

Oh yeah, there's NO WAY he used 00... Or if he did, the perp HAD to be in the next apartment.  It's a proven Arfcom fact that buckshot is guaranteed to miss the intended target & go through several walls before hitting the neighbors.  I might have to call Arfcom shenanigans on this story.

Watch those sneaky bastards use this incident in their statistics as a "firearm used to shoot a friend/family" since he apparently knew the guy

If I were the officer, I'd have believed this story.  It's obvious the victim was stressed; his subject/verb agreement went completely to hell.

Before my father was a firefighter they made them run along with the ambulances. He always tells people the story of him and this other guy responding to a call in the projects where this lady over heard her guy talking to some chick on the phone, came in and shot him in the face with bird shot. Shit was everywhere. He said this guy didn't even have a head left. When you walked through the room there was almost a wake of blood behind you. I believe he still keeps his HD shotguns loaded with bird shot. The farthest shot in the house is not more the 10-20

It WI, you would have to convince the jury at your trial there was no way for you to escape AND that the decedant had verbalized a threat of deadly force ie. "I'm gonna kill you!".
