If you have TechTV, check out TechLive Monday 9pm eastern.  They are running a story about a new defense department weapon called Metal Storm.  It supposedly fires over a million rounds a minute.  Looks interesting!

Do a search for the Metalstorm webpage, they have all the details there including some avi's of actual working models.

As for caliber, it's all calibers including grenades and artillery. And all weapon sizes from pistols to rifles to huge stationary gun emplacements. There are also "pods" can be mounted under helicopters and jets for "puff the magic dragon" type ground coverage.
