I'm 5' 8", athletic, and I wear tight shirts and baggy pants for teh wommen!
 I'm thinking about this carried in a cross-draw holster on my left hip (I'm right handed). What do you all think? http://charterfirearms.com/products/Charter_Mag_Pug_73521.html Should I really plan on needing more than 5 rounds of .357 hydra-shoks for social work? |

I'm 5'11'' tall, weigh a little less than 190 lbs and carry a full size M&P .40 in a Crossbreed Super Tuck holster.
Every time I walk out of my house. (And very often when I'm at home; in fact, I'm wearing it right now.) I don't even know that it is there and neither do the sheeple who I come into contact with daily. With the Crossbreed it simply disappears and the comfort of wearing the rig has to be experienced to be believed. My suggestion to you is to carry as much gun as you might need if a bad situation arises; with the right holster it won't be a problem for you. I was about to buy an M&P compact this week for summer carry; but I tried out my summer clothes today (light cotton shorts and a tee shirt) and walked several miles through a nature park and then through a mall with my full size and the Crossbreed. I think I'll be buying something else for sporting and range use since the full size M&P/Crossbreed combination is definitely going to work well through the hot months as my serious carry weapon. By the way; plenty of people here who know what they're talking about have high praise for both the Super Tuck and the M-Tac as well. Good luck with whatever you choose. ETA: Look out for the "fanboys" here who "know" exactly what's best for you. Only you can determine that. |

Smith & Wesson 442 Airweight, 5 shot revolver, 38 Special
Light, hides in a pocket without printing. Great for ankle holsters, or dropping in a jacket pocket, or computer bag. Big guns are great in a holster, but trying to hide them, and keep them hid, is another story. What good is a CCW gun that you can't conceal? 21? Been there, done that- -you'll probably buy the biggest, baddest auto around, then come to your senses and get something practical. I tried to CCW a S&W 629, then a Beretta 92FS when I was in college. Then I discovered light, thin, and concealable, with enough accuracy and power to make it practical to have on me at all times.

Cross draw doesn't hide shit. the CTAC or Mtac conceal way better than a cross draw. And there are better rounds than the old hydra shok. Specifically the HST and 1911s conceal well on skinny people due to their slim profile. I wear a tshirt and shorts with a gubmint 1911 |

Then you're doing it wrong.
The assertion in your next post isn't accurate - fat people have a harder time carrying concealed than thin folks. Note how thick folks (myself included) tend to "fill out" shirts around the waistband - doesn't leave much room for a pistol. If you have an athletic build then your shoulders should be a lot wider than your waist, allowing you to conceal a gov't model under a normal t-shirt that fits you in the shoulders. ETA:If you're that worried about it, get a PA-63, PPK, or P3AT and a pocket holster. |

Glock 19, the XD is a glock copy with the extra safety features but in my opinion Glock did it right the first time and the XD is just trying to cash in on their popularity by offering something similar but a little bit cheaper. I've heard reports of XD's having reliability issues once they get into the higher round counts as well.
I used to carry a H&K USP compact in .45 but ditched it for a Glock 19 b/c it was too heavy. For those saying get a 1911, I have CC'd one for a while and I'll tell you from experience, the size and weight of it lends itself to being left in the safe when I go out, you just get tired of 5 lbs of metal on your belt. Definately try a few of the options your considering and go from there, don't overestimate the importance of compactness and light weight in a carry gun. The G19 is thin enough, compact enough and light enough for me to carry all day and I will not be undergunned in almost any situation except if they pull out a rifle or a shotty. I think you'll find you'd be better served with 16 rounds of 9mm as opposed to like 5 rounds of 357. |

I like my USPc in 45, but I really want to get a smaller gun. Thinking maybe a G30 or a Kimber Ultra Carry. Im pretty much a jeans and form fitting T-shirt guy myself, and its hard to cover up something as large and thick as a USP. YMMV
Youre a pretty small guy judging from your youtube vids (thats not creepy to say, is it?), so I would go with as slim and small as possible. S&W's airlite or whatever revolvers are probably a good option. Then again, have you checked out the Smart Carry system? Smart Carry |

I'm 5' 8" and 165 lbs. My shoulders are much wider than my waist. I can get away with carrying just about anything IWB at 3:00.
Then again, I don't wear tight shirts. If you want to wear a tight shirt AND carry concealed, think about a pocket holster to go in those baggy pants.. |

What kind of holster would you all recommend for a small DAO revolver? I use a Fobus ankle holster, or just put it in my jacket breast pocket (I always check the inside pockets of the jackets I buy to make sure this works, the clerk probably wonders why I reject jackets that looks good on me, and chose another one instead). I think Mikes makes a wallet looking thing that squares off the barrel end, probably not a bad idea, wouldn't print as easily. They will drop into a front pants pocket, if your pants aren't too tight. I've seen an underwear type of holster, that holsters it in your groin region- -probably would work ok with baggy pants. Be a bear to pull when seated. Presently I carry it in my laptop case, or in the ankle holster now that it has warmed up and I don't wear a jacket. Make sure your cuffs are large, you need to be able to pull them up easily, to hide it and to draw it in a reasonable amount of time. Straight leg pants won't work. |

Consider changing your clothing style. Get yourself some nice hurley button up shirts and you can carry as big as you want.
As far as the gun? Glock or 1911 would get my vote... I like the 23. |
