We're going to Australia and NZ for a few weeks.  Will be mainly in the cities, but may take off across the outback at some point.  Looking at possibly renting a sat phone for the time we are there.

Anyone ever rent one of these?  Looks like the Motorola Iridium is the best, but I'm seeing huge variances in pricing from different companies.

Thanks in advance.

Ive got a motorola 9505a. Great unit. eats batteries so buy a solar mat to carry with you. I suggest buyng instead of renting. you will probably need it again one day.

I got mine from "outfitter satellite"

Definitely stick with Iridium. Watch out if you rent at a *special* rate because you may or may not be able to call depending on traffic volume within their system. Great coverage while in Africa and yes make sure you have a solar charger. Thing sucks batteries if left on all the time.
