picked this up from the range master at the gun club I belong to.

1942 Izhevsk, all matching exept for floor plate (force match) NICE looking stock, one of the better 91/30s I've seen

Looks nice, kinda of looks like a war time stock.

I just shot mine today, shot about 80 rounds of 1952 production bulgarian

They're not the prettiest, they work, tons of history, and the accuracy is usually acceptable. Mine was the second gun I bought.

When you run out of ammo it makes an awesome club.  Much more effective in that role than an AR.

I've always been happy with my M44. I removed the bayonet mount and put an ATI stock on it. I use it as a loaner rifle for friends when we go shooting and general bashing around.

It's the only way you can arm your entire neighborhood for under $1000.

I bought one back when I got my C&R about 5 years ago.  I got a converted 91, Tula hex receiver, the bayonet and all the gear in like new condition for $59 plus shipping.  I like it, but I have to admit, one Mosin seems to me to be enough, I've had no desire to add a second one.

Edited to add:  I've got no desire to arm my neighbors.  Half of them sported Obama/Biden yard signs and the half that didn't is already armed.

I bought these two (both 1942 dated) a couple months ago for 79 bucks a piece. They are in excellent condition and are a great rifle. Got a couple of the 440 round spam cans of 1982 dated ammo for 150 bucks total. Cheap shooting there!

Gun locks were taken off and thrown in the trash shortly after that picture was taken after returning from the store.

What's not to like? "

I did not miss the boat on this one like I did the 8mm turks, i got a life time supplt of ammo for mine while it was cheap.

first three shots out of my big five purchase hit the 300yard gong just by moving the sight to 300, pised off the scoped
guy a few tables down so much he packed up and left.

I got a nice M39 a while back and I'm trying to justify picking up a 91/30.  I don't think I'm missing out on anything, but it's in the realm of "it's so cheap, why not?"

I have a pair of M38s and a couple of spam cans O ammo. Almost all of my friends and family have at least one Mosin.

One night we brought them to the local indoor range just for kicks. Touching off 4-5 of em at a time really shook the place. Totally pissed off a couple of local swat guys. Overheard one of them bitching about how they should ban them.

There was a beautiful, supposedly original sniper version at the local gun store a few weeks ago. Had the correct glass, stock and bolt, no import marks and was numbers matching. I was so tempted but $750 was a little bit to steep for my tastes.

If you want a Mosin, get one soon. According to the manager of the local Big5, the vast supply of them is starting to dry up and the unfired and good rearseneled ones are about gone. Most of what they have left are mixmasters, counterbored and the furniture on them is really rough.

Bet they will be $300-$500 in 5 years..

My M44 is not accurate on multiple shots, mostly because the barrel is not "full floating" and is improperly bedded. I did try to follow the instructions online, but it did not help.

The barrel attaches with 2 screws. These bind up as the gun heats up and expands.

Mmmmmm . .  Mosins ! !

GREAT rifles ! !  As reliable as a hammer.  Will shoot about a ba-zillion yards.

A couple of years ago I bought a bunch of surplus ammo at seven cents a round.

Got 20-something right now.

They breed like rabbits . . . .

Na, you just give one of your liberal neighbors one Nagant, and 5 rounds each to the others. Then tell them when the neighbor in front gets killed, grab the rifle, load it and carry on defending their turf.
