WOOO HOOO!  I learned (kinda) how to shoot isoceles today.  Nailed 9 out of 9 bowling pins at 25 yards using 9mm in my Sigma SW9V UMC ammo.

Mucho Thanks Jarhead22!!!

OT/IJ:  One time, at Jew Camp....You went to High School for 6 years?   Bang! you're dead.   Everything I touch breaks???

Hey bro, you're welcome. I didn't invent it, and I'm certainly not the best at teaching it, but it works for me. I'm glad it works for you too.

And lo, I say unto thee: go forth and in my name make very small groups of holes appear very near the center of oddly colored pieces of paper, for this is good in my eyes.

So let it be written, so let it be done.

garandman:

The isoceles stance takes its name from the triangle with two equal sides. In this case, your arms are those two equal sides. The pistol is held directly out in front of your face with both arms extended equally, where the Weaver stance has the strong arm locked out and the weak arm bent and usually pulling back slightly on the weapon to stabilize it.

I was a lifelong Weaver shooter until I attended www.tdsa.net just south of Dallas. They really turned my head around on this one, and I preach isoceles now like the true-believer convert that I am. It allows me to get the weapon into the fight sooner out of the holster and to make faster and more accurate follow-up shots.

Now all we need is for gunrunner to post the pics of everyone trying to fix the bata c.

Here's a picture from the TDSA website of one of their instructors, Steve Mack (IDPA Master-class shooter and multiple state level champ), in the isoceles. It's a little difficult to get the real sense of how things line up because they took the picture with the muzzle offset slightly from the camera lens, probably so as not to freak out first-time visitors to their site.

Here's a pic of some guys using the Weaver stance that I found on what I think is a Massad Ayoob site:

There are lots of books and videos out there, but if you hook up with your local IDPA guys, you'll probably find someone out there that can help you out, or recommend someone who can.

I wish! I'd love to get a commission for everybody that's bought a firearm-related product on my recommendation.

What can I say? When I find a product or service that exceeds my expectations, I tell everybody about it. The corollary to that is that when I find a product or service that fails to meet my expectations, I tell everybody about it. [:D]

North Texas is the best place to come.  Not only do we have Jarhead_22's training but we also get to play with Class 3 weapons and not to mention all our littl backwoods gunsmithing courses.

No really, I'm no expert. I just try to pass on a little of what I've picked up from experts. I'm RO'ing a Pro-Tac carbine class this Saturday, and I'm sure that will impart a few gems we can share at the next Swamp Range get-together. [:p]

Backwoods gunsmithing tips:

Hammers can be stoned using an ordinary whetrock --- carefully remove any burs....

MP5 SDs can have stuck rounds removed from the chamber using a hammer and a block of wood -- owner swings the hammer of course.

Beta-Cs should only be disassembled when you bring the CORRECT instructions for reassembly -- check to see if you have the correct instructions AFTER it fails, of course.

Clouds of Rem Oil can be hard to breathe, use only a SMALL amount as a lubricant....
