Anyone else looking forward to this new series? It's supposed to air beginning on Wednesday, January 16, 9c on USA Network. Here's a 'lil excerpt from the site (www.usanetwork.com/series/combatmissions/) explaining what it's all about in case you don't know already...:

"Combat Missions pits four elite squads comprised of six non-active military and law enforcement professionals against one another. Comprised of Navy SEALs, SWAT, CIA, Marine Recon, Delta Force, and Green Berets, squad members must use their strength, skills, and wits to compete for bounty — and, more importantly, for honor and pride.

Located in the Mojave Desert, Camp Windstorm is a simulated working military base. Commanding officer Master Chief Rudy Boesch oversees the base and is responsible for briefing all personnel on camp rules as well as on Training Exercise and Combat Mission objectives.

All itineraries and training routines are led by sergeants, gunnery sergeants, and sergeant majors. There are no drill instructors. Camp Windstorm is not a boot camp — it is a place for doing, not for learning. All of the missions are dangerous and are not intended for novices. All participants are highly trained professionals who have arrived ready to defend, to protect, and to prove they have what it takes to be the best. Various contests and missions will decide the standing of each team, as well as of each contestant."

The previews make it look pretty good. I didn't realize it was non-active personnel. I was hoping they would take active teams and compete them against each other.

Oh well, hopefully it's a good series anyway.

I doubt if DoD is going to sanction public competetion and broadcast of SOF organizations without their own oversight.

Allowing the Best Ranger competetion to be covered is about as far as they will go in that direction.

On the other hand, Rudy is the former Senior Enlisted Advisor to the CINCSOC, so good to see some adult supervision.

Lots of explosions and weapons on the commercials, but honestly, I don't think it will live up to what we all expect to see.

More "Survivor" type BS.  As with all the others, will not watch.

SUBJECT: Participation in Commercial, Combat-Oriented Events

1. Personnel assigned to units within the United States Special Operations Command are prohibited from participating in commercial, combat-oriented competition events in either their personal or official capacities. Events prohibited include, but are not limited to, Ocombat boxing" events, "tough man" contests, "combat missions" competitions, survival events, non-DoD competitions pitting special operations forces and other elite Government entities against each other, and similar events.

2. It is inappropriate to associate DoD and special operations forces with these types of events or to tend our skills and respected unit designations in direct or indirect support of private commercial endeavors. Pitting special operations forces against each other in such events is detrimental to the Joint teamwork developed within USSOCOM. These events, very simply, are inconsistent with our values, standards, and Quiet Professionalism; they present unnecessary hazards that threaten the health, safety, welfare, and teamwork of our warriors.

3. Please take immediate and continuing action within your command to effect this policy and its intent.

4. This policy expires two years from the date of publication.
