I've cut the dividers out, but never thought of putting them in sideways.  I'll have to try that.

I HAD to cut mine out.  How else could I fit in my Tabasco sauce and Hershey bars?

When I was 11C on active duty, I also cut mine out.  As I didn't normally carry an M-16, I carried other crap in there- pocket knives, compass, nail clipper, food bars, candy, smokes, lighter, 1/2 pints, camo stick, blistex, doobie, etc.

Of course, I had to buy new ones and turn them in as "servicable".

I always bought my own gear (at least the stuff I could actually buy).  When I was forced to accept an issue, I kept it in the bag until I PCSed out of the area.  That way, I could do what I wanted to with it, and it saved a lot of hassles.

I have some Blackhawk pouches that have no dividers. I figured this would allow me to use them either for M16 or M14/FAL mags.
Not sure if I'm totally happy with them though.
Time will tell.

Your issued pouches had dividers????  Everyone I ever had, had them ripped or missing all together!

Yeah, one of mine has intact dividers and the other has them ripped apart.  I never tried putting anything else in there, though.  Maybe when I get my Stg58 I won't need to buy mag pouches for it!

BTW I never tried this, but can you fit 3 Thermold mags in the issue pouches, or just USGI mags?

I might try the sideways thing, as that's how I carry pistol mags and I'm used to the motion of quick-changing pistols mags.

Its tight but I can fit 3 thermolds in a GI Mag pouch that still has the dividers.
