While listening to WSVN channel 7 news at 6 pm ET the story of last weekend's Liberty City shooting aired again. During interviews a politician promised the Liberty City community that an AWB will be signed by February. Anyone in the Miami-Dade and Broward county areas should watch WSVN tonight and please confirm or discredit this statement. Although I believe this politician whose name I missed may be indulging in wishful thinking it is something I believe must be watched and followed.

If that happens, the people accused of spending way too much money for an AR that 'won't be banned', will look like geniuses. Those that opted to wait for the prices to come back down, and those that wouldn't spend the extra money and ordered guns with an estimated delivery of April or May may be SOL.
I'll bet ammo prices start to go crazy again if that's true. Better buy now. |

Makes sense really. The only industry that is making money in the country right now. Might as well fuck it up also....
|
|
You may want to edit your title to something like, "Floridians promised AWB will be signed by the end of Feb." More people will pay attention.
Hopefully someone can provide confirmation or transcript/video/audio. |

Well we will see if the NRA does anything. Lets hope for everyone's sake.

I think it would be more prudent to find out the facts of this issue and if it is true we should all swing in to high gear and fight it vice having pissing contests about who bought what when...
Amazing a credible threat to our rights and the first reactions are basically I told you so (regarding buying). Maybe we could actually ensure we fight this from a national joint effort vice arguing. I am totally in let me know if it is true and how I can help. |

It would not suprise me one bit if those cocksuckers in congress rushed something through with obamas full blessing. Especially with the spree of shootings over the weekend

Quoted: And some of us have been having to wait until we got big fat bonuses and tax refunds, because we aren't made of money, and don't buy anything on credit, including guns. Some of us have been putting money aside for other things, like kids' educations. Some of us have had to pay for stuff like weddings. You guys in Florida need to write your politicians before it becomes like California or New York.

But still, I would still write my reps in the State legislature to make sure they don't try give in to this bullshit. |

Well we will see if the NRA does anything. Lets hope for everyone's sake. We shouldn't wait for the NRA to do anything. 1. Can someone indeed find out if there is a factual attempt to make a ban in Fla. 2. Can we find out who is if anyone is sponsoring this and what politicians are involved on both sides. 3. Contact information for local newspapers especially the letters to the editor section 4. Contact info for local gun rights advocates 5. Politicians in the area that are pro gun with contact info 6. Contact info for anti gun politicians 7. Someone want to take a stab at writing a letter that is factual, passionate but polite and concise and eloquent. Something we can copy and send to various places with our name and address. 8. Plans for formal protests including location, date and time. 9. A list of locals willing to put together some signs for the protest. 10. Someone or some mechanism for us to send some money to help pay for protest materials. If someone in Florida would be a real peach and put all that together maybe we can all pitch in. I know I'll write letters and ask friends here in Cali to write letters make phone calls and faxes. We need politicians to understand that a knee jerk reaction to this issue and a stupid vote now may and potentially will cost them an election down the road. Funny thing about politicians is when they feel the weight of a lot of people potentially voting against them or for them they tend to change real quick. Dear Sir/Ma'am if you vote to take my rights from me I will do everything in my power next election to ensure you lose and are forced to find a real job. |

I'm surprised no one is talking about this.....
http://www.whitehouse.gov/agenda/urban_policy/ # Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent. |

With the exception of Dade and Broward counties other Florida counties are strong pro-gun proponents.

If politicians see in-state residents proactively working against this and then see out of state people joining in, they start doing the math and they think hmmmm residents not voting for me + out of staters bringing attention to this issue and giving donations and helping to convince residents that are friends and family to not vote for them and pretty soon they start to see a lot of pressure is being brought down on them. They quickly start to weaken if they see stuff like that. |

I've seen that exact quote posted probably 20 times since Obama won the election. Problem (for Obama) is that he doesn't write the laws, Congress does. And don't assume D control equals automatically anti-gun either. LOTS of pro-gun Dems in congress right now. |

That was Miami COP Timoney who said he knew Biden well and Biden assured him an AWB was forthcoming.

I am aware how laws are passed, however, there is more pressure to push something like this through than many realize. |

Yea, the economy sucks, so let's pass a ban and put 500,000 people out of work. |

This, by the way, is the same tripe that was on Obama's campaign website, then change.gov, etc. With around 5000 other promises. It's likely that any attempt at gun control at the federal level will die in the Senate. There are enough votes for a filibuster, and Harry Reid is anti-AWB. The real danger for gun control lies at the state level. |

I already wrote my Reps here in Michigan about how I feel on a AWB. Sir, As I have tried to explain to people yes votes are important but if Florida politicians XYZ and see that they have people from all over fighting against them they start to see their careers going down the drain. I can't vote for them but I can along with others send cash to work against them. I can call friends and family there I can along with you and every one else here show them that the amount of money they used last time to get elected will need to triple or quadruple. Politicians are very keen about public perception. And like I have tried to point out to people here most importantly... pardon my all caps THE LIBERALS KNOW THIS AS WELL AND THAT IS WHY THE BRADY CAMPAIGN USES VOLUNTEERS FROM ALL OF THE US TO FLOOD STATES WHEN THEY HAVE ANTI GUN LEGISLATION UP FOR VOTES. We have got to stop sitting on the side of the road as liberals beat the shit out of us at this game of getting politicians to pay attention. If you are a US Citizen your voice certainly does matter. |

There is no way possible for a new AWB to be signed by February. That would take the House passing an AWB, the Senate passing an AWB, a committee forming to straighten out the differences, then the House would have to pass it again, then the Senate would have to pass it again, then it would have to get to Obama desk to be signed. The House and Senate would not agree and even in the House and Senate different people would want more or less in the bill this time and it would be stalled until the they scratched each others backs enough on other deals to work through it. You are looking at September before it would be possible for a bill to pass all the way through and get signed.

Also write letters to your local newspaper to educate people on what an assault weapon really is and how commonly used guns like Ruger 10/22 and Remington 870 have been classified as assault weapons by some people. Get to work people. We have nobody to blame except ourselves if a new AWB is signed. |
