Is this pistol IPSC competition legal?

I want to shoot it in IPSC standard competition, but I don't know for sure if this is a good pistol for it. I mean, are the dimensions for it legal (box fit, etc.)?

I know I will make the following modifications to it for sure:
Extended Slide Release
Extended Safety
Trigger Adjustment/Replacement

I do not really want to do IPSC for the competition of it, as I am a passive and lack that egotistical desire to be "THE BEST" at shooting. I would just like to improve my skills at shooting in "Freestyle" or somewhat "Practical" ways... I will obviously have to practice A LOT! Right now I just practice three shot pseudo-bursts.

One Head, Two C.O.M. (Repeat As Necessary or Until Empty)

I am getting pretty good at it, but I never draw from a holster, etc... I'd like to improve in skill, but it's hard to do so, when for me, .45 ACP is too much for fast follow-up shots & reacquiring the target.

Obviously, being a poor college student, I cannot afford this until about next summer, but I would like to start putting money away for it, and when I get enough money, I will then know whether or not this is what I want...

I'm almost positive this pistol would be legal in the prodution pistol catagory which means you wouldn't have to compete against all out race guns.

By the way IPSC shooting is AWESOME! I think it is the most fun you can have with a pistol legally. I recomend it to everyone.

Check out IDPA. Someone correct me if I'm wrong(as if I thought you wouldn't[;D]):

This gun would be classified as "Limited Ten" in IPSC, but you would be penalized for 9mm because you would still not make major power factor.

This gun would be classified as "ESP" (Enhanced Service Pistol) in IDPA. The class is specific for single action autos in calibers other than .45 and 10mm.

I think you would be more competetive shooting IDPA,IMHO. But whatever you do, COMPETE/SHOOT/BURN AMMO. It's good for the soul.[:D]

Your are wrong about 9mm being penalized in IPSC. It used to be that way but the new rules for 2002 no longer penalize 9mm.

Thanks for the correction PGM. I'm more of the IDPA shooter myself, but I play IPSC when I need to let it all hang out (all that thinking makes me slow [;D]).

You are wrong about him being wrong. 9mm X19 still shoots minor scoring catagory. They lowered the power factor to meet major but not enought to include 9mm X19

And shooting minor is not a penalty untill you are not hitting all A Zone scores.;

I swear I read a magzine article 2 weeks ago saying that IPSC got rid of the major/minor catagories in the prodution class for 2002. I for one think that the 9mm should have to shoot in the minor catagorie. If I get motivated and find that article I'll post it.

Thank you for the information so far, but the rules are rather confusing to me, as I'm not too familiar with competition in firearms...

says that there is a [b]Major/Minor Power Factor Floor[/b] whatever the hell that is!?

I see that Standard Division shows minimum bullet caliber of 9mm, but nothing about major/minor calibers. The Open Division shows a requirement for a 120 grain bullet for minimum bullet weight, but there is no minimum for "Standard Division", which is what I'm looking to do.

I'm also confused about this Springfield Armory "Full Size" pistol, because it says:

What the hell do they mean by "V-12 Barrel Porting"? I don't remember seeing any holes/ports on the top of the barrel on the version I saw of this pistol, but am I stupid/wrong/severelylackinintellect?

I don't know what that means. Would that disqualify me from "Standard Division" which does not allow Ports or Compensators? This is pretty confusing...

Does anyone have one of the Springfield full-size models? If so, could you let me know if it really is a "Ported" or "Compensated" barrel?

Standard is 170.

With a 9mm, even a 147gr @ 1095 fps will only give you 160. (Not that it matters because
the minimum caliber for major power factor is .40.)

Since you already own a .45, you ought to know that a 200 swc @ just a bit over 850 fps,
to be safe, is a real pussycat.

They have ported anad unported barrels. For instance, the .45 Super longslide comes ported, but it is an option on the ACP Longslide. I'm not into competition, so could somebody bring up mag capacity? I don't know if 9 is enough in IPSC.

9x19 will always score minor in the USA (IPSC/USPSA). No ammo maker makes a factory load that makes major, and is risky. Minimum bullet diameter for the game is .355. Minimum diameter for major in the stock/limited class is .400, .355 is allowed in the 38 Super varients, bullets less than 143gr must use a supported barrel in .355. You cannot shoot a limited 38 super gun and claim major, as no maker loads Super fast enough. The only 35 caliber that is allowed to score major in stock form is the .357 Mag.

If you buy the 9mm shoot IDPA. If you want to shoot IPSC, buy a .40. The larger caliber will easily make major.

The reason that you did'nt see anything about major/minor in the standard division is becuase they did away with major/minor catagories in the standard division for 2002. 9MM is the minimum caliber, but for 2002 every calibur in the standard division scores as major.
