However if a Wall Street Journal reporter did talk to this person over there. Being a Gulf War Vet myself it sounds to me that he talked to a new-be kid in a war zone talking like he some John T. Rambo. When I was over in the war zone it used to upset me to get Dear G.I. letters from people that I didn't know, one reason is that its all we ever got, our mail from our families was being held up due to the flood of Dear G.I. letters. Its a fine line when boosting moral of the troops and pissing them off with Spam mail. Beside this topic is regarding unused hunting tags or license, I really don't see the real need to post it here, maybe better in the GD forum. I understand your concern and your desire to keep this forum "pure." Be advised that Sgt Jacox (according to the article) is a 7+ year vet (former Army Ranger who reenlisted with USMC). I don't see him as a "Rambo" newbie...please read the article in the WSJ (I think you could find the clipping via internet if you search on "Marine Sniper in Afghanistan") and decide for yourself. The description was compiled by the WSJ journalist, not Sgt Jacox....I suspect he would have preferred not seeing his name and picture on the front page above the fold. By the way, I am also a vet...509th Airborne Combat Team, Vicenza, Italy. I never had a problem receiving family mail and very much appreciated cards/letters from others I didn't know expressing their appreciation for my being in uniform (especially from schoolchildren who drew the best pictures of mass-exit parachute drops -- wish I'd kept them). By the way, do you have an unused license? |

Well, all of my big game tags are filled. Here in Washington. Starting this year, all of the licenses are all on the same peace of paper. (i.e., large game, small game, upland bird and fishing). They created the new kind to be used in this state to be used with state and fed computer for tracking "lame dad's and anyone wanted on warrants." So they now contain a unique number ID that can be used to track via use of a computer and also for mandatory report cards. So I probably not just hand any unused one out for public to see.
When I stated a new-be, I was talking about combat in general, not time in service. But I think more so that the WSJ may have been making a juicy story line. I hope the mil mail on the front is not as screwed up as it was during and after the Gulf War. In 1996 I was still getting letters from family and friends that was not delivered during it.
