Always liked the 1st Cavalry's patch, and the Infantry School's logo looks pretty cool too (Follow Me...).

"The horse they never rode..."
"The line they never crossed ..." "And yellow for the streak ..." Just an old saying. Not necessarily my opinion. |
|
Actually I believe it goes,
"Here's the horse you never rode And here's the line you couldn't hold And yellow...well, that speaks for itself." Again, not my opinion... |

Tie between 5th Spec. Forces and 101st AB. My 146th Signal patch was cool too.

Don't know about pretty, but the 45th will always make me misty when I see it.

The Second Armored Division. The only Army unit patch with a swearing word (Hell On Wheels). Of course, it really isn't a shoulder patch, because it this only Army unit patch that is worn on the chest instead of the shoulder.
|
|
1st Cav. Was always proudest of wearing that on in particular.

I'm a bit partial to Ranger Scrolls.
But 10th mountain looks pretty sharp. |

I guess you like the one you wore. mike |

Which one has the big red diamond? That's the one my uncle was in when he was in Viet Nam.
|
|
Believe the diamond was the insignia of the 5th Infantry Division.

But none of these patches are as cool as the Eagle, Globe and Anchor! So cool that patches are unworthy! [:D]

Oh yea, the Army blows,,,lol Merry Christmas |

Not my Division patch - thats for sure.....even the 82nd doesn't look as tight as a Ranger Scroll or Special Forces Group patch...................The best "patches" go to the guys who aren't allowed to WEAR patches. Again, not me. But don't mess with the ones who have velcro - if that - on their uniform and often have their BDU pockets on the sleeves. Those are actual soldiers. The rest is new "Army of One" - which is why I'm ETS-ing out of this bulls##t.........

I wore the big red diamond, yes it was the 5th Infantry Division, no longer in existence. Quiet Shootr I agree with you the Berlin Bde. I was in it in 1978/79. When were you there? John

Thanks, Ted... |

View Quote SHOULDER SLEEVE INSIGNIA. Description: On a yellow triangular Norman shield with rounded corners 5 1/4 inches in height overall, a black diagonal stripe extending over the shield from upper left to lower right and in the upper right a black horse's head cut off diagonally at the neck all within a 1/8 inch green border. Symbolism: Yellow, the traditional cavalry color, and the horse's head refer to the division's original cavalry structure. Black, symbolic of iron, alludes to the transition to tanks and armor. The black diagonal stripe represents a sword baldric and is a mark of military honor; it also implies movement "up the field" and thus symbolizes aggressive elan and attack. The one diagonal bend, as well as the one horse's head, also alludes to the division's numerical designation. Background: The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved January 3, 1921 with several variations in colors of the bend and horse's head to reflect the subordinate elements of the division. The current design was authorized for wear by all subordinate elements of the division on December 11, 1934 and previous authorization for the variations was cancelled. I'm biased to wearing all 3, but:
1) 3rd Bn 75th scroll 2) 101st ABN (AASLT) 3) SOCOM (I know it's joint, but other branches dont wear it while assigned here) |
|
Oh, and though its defunct and its rare too see even a senior CSM walking around with one, the old 173 BDE (ABN). Always thought that was a tight looking patch, and those boys caught hell in Vietnam - they were all over the map in Southeast Asia, a regular fire brigade. Speaking of which, any Rangers out there still in shock over this Army wide black beret BS? Legs in beret's are wrong in the first place, but jesus, its come to this to help retention? I do, however, have to admit the Tan (SAS inspired) ones their issuing to the Rgr bats are cool, but I still think its wrong to issue over 300,000 active troops black berets.

Hey guys, I hope you don't mind me gracing your pages with an Air Force patch. I used to wear this one when I was with the 31st CRS, 31st TAC Fighter Wing at Homestead AFB, Florida. A guy in my squadron came up with the design and I thought it was kinda cool.
