I've never "Logged" on to this board at work,yet I would view this site from time to time, along with other sites in the early mornings.5:30 - 6:30 (normal business hours are 8:00 to 6:00) Now with new software installed I can't even go to "webster's Dictionary" w/out being warned that the site is not a "Work Related Site" (yes I can hit the "Continue" button/ and I do)

My point is do any of you guys & gals have to deal with the same restraints???

Yes.  If a site is not work related, a warning pops up.  People are scared to check espn.com.

I had a job like that once.  It helped that I was in MIS and had my own laptop.  After getting a dispensation to use my own PERSONAL laptop, I ws able to plug into the LAN and move like a ghost (I found the IP I was assigned and masked it - the router saw me in and out, but the IP itself was hidden from just about everybody but my boss...)  Why did this work? My boss did the same thing!

Internet traffic is logged at just about every good sized company with dedicated internet connections. The difference is what they do with that info.

Where I am (right now even... [:D]) that info is never seen... unless... you make the top ten traffic report (think I've been there once... or more..) OR your manager asks HR to get that info released pursuant to a work related issue.

Bypassing that crap is pretty easy.  Just go to [url]www.rewebber.com[/url] and enter the web address there.  You're proxy will only report that you've been at the Rewebber site.  It's not really fast, but if you're worried about Big Brother, it beats nothing.
By the way, I AM Big Brother at my business.  I monitor the proxy logs for "violations".  It's GREAT blackmail material (just kidding).  If some of these guys wives knew what they were downloading . . .
If your site has blocked Rewebber, just do a search for "anonymous proxy" at [url]www.google.com[/url].  It will usually dig up a lot of info about using anon proxies and give you some IP's to try out.  Be careful though, you never know who is running those "anonymous" services . . . could be the Feds looking for kiddie porn.

I think we all have the same restrictions in that IT groups CAN look up what we do, but most of the time they don't have the resources.

Try another proxy site at www.safeweb.com it is encrypted as well as being a proxy server.

I normally telecommute 3 days a week so it's not a problem. However, at work if I have some hardcore surfing to do, I use the dial-up line to my own ISP.
