I'm getting ready to buy a 1999 GMC Suburban, SLT package, has every single option except sun roof, towing package, leather seats, 5.7 engine, 4x4, 170k miles.  Its a one owner, owned by an older man, very nice condition.  He was asking over $4000 for it, I made an offer of $3000 and he accepted it, good deal or bad?

Got the same truck. 4X2. 1997. 2500.  If it is indeed very nice condition, you did pretty good.

The company I work for just traded my company car, a 1996 suburban LT package for a 2008 Tahoe LT.  The 1996 was a 1500 with 4X4 and cloth seats.  It had 268,000 miles and still ran like a top.  They sold it to an indivdual buyer for $2000.

Anyway, that was a good truck.  I hope the new Tahoe is just as good.

I've looked at a ton of them in the area, and this on by far is the nicest.  Very well maintained.  I sold my 1986 Chevy CUCV military blazer for $3000, so I basically traded it for the suburban

good truck, as long as it doesn't have a 4L60, you are approaching its life.  4L80, no worries

Is it a 1500 or 2500?

If it's a 1500, I'd pick through it with a fine tooth comb.

If it's a 2500, I'd still pick, but wouldn't be worried as much.

Sounds like a good price.

Its a 1500. I went through the whole truck.. He has maintenance records since he bought it new.  Transmission was serviced every 50k miles.

+1.  My dad has a 99 Tahoe with 177k and he just bought a 2008 tahoe.

He still uses the 99 as his daily driver.  No problems.  for $3k that's a heck of a deal.

My 99 K1500 Suburban has 145k, and aside from the transmission going ($$$) and the fuel sending unit going ($250 part and a pain in the rear to drop the fuel tank), it has been a great truck.  Mileage sucks (14-15 mpg city, slightly higher hwy but I'm usually pulling a trailer on trips), but it's safe, insurance is cheap, and it hauls my family and toys everywhere.
