Although the NRA is probably the most recognized gun rights group out there, I still like 2nd Amendment Foundation. They are very vocal, and willing to go to court in a heartbeat on an issue.

Depending on your state, there are very effective state-level organizations out there.

ETA, I'm a life member of the NRA and Gun Owners of America. I'm a regular member of the Second Amendment Foundation and the Washington Rifle and Pistol Association. |

At the minimum I think you should join a local state organization (if you have a good one) and the NRA, in that order.

If you only have the money to join one, the NRA
I don't see how the cost of annual membership covers the cost of postage, magazines and other crap they send but at least you add to the numbers |
