All American ones are now.  Most of those Navy boys know how to operate their steeds.  Even if they hit the ship at full speed, the reactors are buried so far inside it wouldn't cause them to melt down.

If I recall correctly, the pilot was Capt. Dale Snodgrass and it was an approved flight.  He most certainly was not grounded for it...

Most any photographer worth the name will tell you that the effect of the F-14 Tomcat being so close is due to the forshortening effect of a telephoto lens. I spotted it immediately, and I'm not even a professional photographer.
