I just got word from my wife that my dad drew down on some burglars this morning. He wasn't hurt, thankfully. This wasn't his first, either. Stand by while I call the old man.

Glad to hear your dad's okay and didn't have to go through the mental anguish and legal hassle of a shooting.

The only "drawdown" I've ever had to do was years ago I had to pull my .44mag on a cow moose with her calf when they were getting too close to the tent my little boys were sleeping in. I growled at her and after a minute of us staring at each other, they trotted off into the trees.

Even if he's your dad, if his post-count is low I'd be skeptical.

Make sure you find out if there was any "blading" or not.
I think it would be key to the story.

Wait.......... what is blading again???  Does it mean he had a knife?  I wish someone would post something about how to blade.

Unfortunately, Dad doesn't use MS Paint

Just got off the phone with him. He had to make a Captain D's run, so I just caught him.

My retired dad lives in Macon, GA in an area that has gotten rough. He has a shop in the back yard with a slat fence around it. About a month ago, someone climbed the  fence, broke in the shop, busted out a back window that faces away from the house and threw out the loot. He filed a police report. The cop told him to put in a burglar alarm. Instead, Dad puts in a silent motion detector with an alarm inside the house. He also borded up the broken window, the only means of escape.

So at 0900 this morning, his alarm goes off. He grabs his Colt .380 ACP and gives the .38 to my stepmom. I asked why he didn't grab the 1964 model Python that he carried while on the Sheriff's dept; he carries the .380 every day and is just most comfortable with it. Anyway, he goes around the side of the house that leads to the shop door while my stepmom circles around the other side, with the .38 cocked. This guy was not getting away!

While this is going on, my 13-year old nephew (who lives with my dad and was home sick from school) calls the police. Dad eases up to the shop door and sees the hasp busted and the door open. He yells "Whoever is in there, you just broke into the property of a retired cop. Come out in 10 seconds or you are going to die!" The burglar, obviously distraught that the exit window was now boarded up, willingly complied.

Dad makes him plant his face in the dirt while he is covering him with the .380. The guy says, and I swear this is the truth, "I was just looking for a place to take a shit.' Dad says, "You were going to shit in my shop??!!" Dad proceeded to give him every insult you could ever think of, told him he was sick of burglars breaking in, etc. He then yells at my nephew to go get his cigarettes and a cup of coffee.

About that time, my stepmom comes around the side of the shop to join Dad. They're standing there talking while she decides to uncock the revolver, pointed safely in the air (the perp didn't know where it was pointed). The hammer slips and she accidentally discharges it. The perp starts yelling "Oh hell! Oh hell!" But he didn't dare get him up.

A couple minutes later, Dad is standing there with a cup of joe and a smoke while he waits on the cops, his Colt still aimed at the guys head, my stepmom standing there with a .38, and my nephew soaking up every glorious moment.

Three cops showed up; one was the same that answered the last B&E call. One cop gets the guy up, slams him into the shop wall and proceeds to cuff the 47 yo frequent offender. The city policeman then tells Dad: "I wish more folks were like you. This is the easisest B&E arrest I've had in a while. We show up and you have him all wrapped up and ready to go!"

I asked Dad if he got the shakes or if his heart rate went up. He said it didn't at all. Keep in mind that the guy was unarmed, Dad used to be a deputy, and this was at least his third drawdown at home. Two of them happened when I was a kid, and one involved me covering a perp with an AR. But that's another story that I told some time ago on here...

Anyway, glad Dad is OK and that they locked up the turd.

Sweet!  I bet that guy crapped when stepma cut that round loose into the air!  Deputies had to ride to the clink with the windows down.  HAhahahahha!  Glad your dad is ok.  Wes

I can't find it. It was several months ago and may be archived. I started the thread and it was titled something like "True Stories Of Using Guns In Self Defense" or something similar. I'll tell it again if no one can find it.

No. "Blade" as in turn your body away from your opponent, presenting a thinner target, like the "blade" of a knife.
