With the exception of subpoenas, has any government agency ever approached the staff in here about providing general access to user records? And if so, what was your response?

Highly interesting question!

You mean you don't think arfcom is run BY the gov't?

As of May 2006, the servers housing ARFCOM have been physically relocated to the third floor of the ATF Headquarters in DC.  All posts / user info is being stored in a database and being used to generate gun confiscation lists, with priority weighted by post count.

No, if they were, they wouldn't cancel threads for CoC #4 violations

Goatboy is far, far too competent to be employed by the .gov.

ARFcom would crash daily if the .gov ran it.

Wasn't staff contacted about the scammer kid buying/selling stuff in the EE that threatened a VT-type shooting?

I'm interested in whether the server admins would physically destroy the drives before turning them in.

Indeed... but I am quite positive that there are other such sites run as honey pots. That's not what I'm referring to though; I'm curious just how much prying their way into ARFCOM the feds have tried.

FWIW, GoatBoy has discussed this in the past.

He says that he will not voluntarily turn any data over.  He would comply with the law I'm sure, including an order that he turns over the systems.

He doesn't store credit card info.  You're not obligated to put your real name in your profile.  They'd have to trace web server logs to track you down.  But they could.

. They would give everything up the moment the feds came knocking. You are kidding your self if you think they are going to sacrifice themselves to save the internets.

I'd hope GoatBoy treats the forum threads like 4473s should be treated and accidentally sends piles to the shitcan every so often.

I've actually seen this thread pop up at least twice, maybe three times prior.

Never seen an answer

Lacking a court order I am sure the Avilas would tell the Feds to piss off. Provided a court order then I expect they would surrender all access.
