I am in the position to basically come out ahead on my AR15's. I sold my HBAR car upper on EE. Planned on ordering a kit from J&T so I can complete my other stripped lower. I recently bought a RRA midlength upper that has to go back to RRA due to a barrel indexing issue. Adco offered my money back on it. I really love the upper but if I got my money back and sold my lowers I would be able to buy a 556. I have fondled them and I like them. Just not sure if I can give up on AR's just yet. However, this could be the last chance I have for a long time to get a weapon this expensive.

BTW I do not mean this to be a VS. thread. I am just curious about the 556. How is the reliability and accuracy?

I like mine.

I don't like it more than 2 ARs.

I want to say get the 556 now while you have the chance, then make sure you have an AR down the road. The problem is, who knows what's coming in the way of bans. Bottom line if you want the 556 get it. They are sweet and I wish I could afford one right now.

Get the Sig now and buy a lower to assemble at a later date when you have more fun money...

I am soon to have 7 ARs before long.  I have no Sigs.  What does that tell you?

Think long term, Future of finding parts if a ban does happen..Are 556 parts out there?

I could probably afford to keep my current 2 lowers and still get the 556. I am looking for reasons for a 556 to be worth the price of 2 AR's. My AR's have shot great and have been 100% reliable. I only sold the HBAR upper because it was pretty front heavy. I never realized it until I got the LW mid-length RRA upper. I fell in love after that.

I wonder how many months it will take me to get my upper back if I send it to RRA  for warranty work. I'd get a refund if I knew I could get something else soon.

I took a carbine class with a guy that had a SIG. He was bitching about the weight by the start of day 2.....

I thought they were light until I built my light weight RRA upper with a 6 position stock. After that the sig didn't feel so light.

I went and looked at another one today. I'm not sure why I seemed so impressed at first. I am will be keeping 2 AR's.

1 AR + some spare parts + lots of ammo better than the 2 options you have listed in my opinion. If your set on parts and ammo I would do 2 AR's. Tho I have had a hankering for a SIG lately I can't explain.

i have had 2 556's, sold one . . . traded the other one on here. One I bought to resell (never shot it) the other I bought because I liked it and it shot great but I traded it for an AR, eotech and parts. I didn't like the weight, I liked the rifle but I would buy two AR's. And I wouldn't buy another unless it was at a great deal. Now in defense of the 556, a good friend of mine had two and they shot great!! But he has since got rid of both and is back to AR's.

It's your decision and your money, but if you buy a 556, try to find one with a metal (or aluminum, not sure what they are made out of) because a lot of the newer ones coming from Sig are plasitc buffer tubes.

Good luck with the decision. Be sure to post pics after you make your decision!!

better...one AR and one AK.

The Sig doesn't really do anything that the AR doesn't also do...

Why not get something that compensates for your AR's shortcomings?

Personally, I'd be looking at something in .308, or a 6.5 Grendel upper for my existing AR lower. Either approach solves the .223's biggest shortcoming: limited effectiveness beyond moderate distances.

Just shot both this last weekend as my brother has a sig 556 and a colt 6920 and I have a Modular Bushmaster fluted. The 556 was certainly smoother and more accurate to me than the others. But it is heavier without a doubt. It felt more like a push (think 45 vs 40) than a pop when fired. Slap on a ACOG and your good to go....

I have a sig 556 swat. The trigger puts my Ar's with RRA 2 stage trigger to shame.

Get both!

I already have one AK so that is covered.

I may do a AR in a funky caliber. Maybe 7.62x39. Or 9mm which I have contemplated many times. I have a rem700 tactical in .308 for reaching out. I guess I will figure it out eventually. I am going to wait till stuff calms down before I get another upper.

I think this huge stupid rush is why my luck with RRA has been bad lately. One upper was blemished pretty bad and the new one I got is indexed wrong. It shoots a foot left. So that is going back. I may try a J&T kit since I do need a second stock and LPK.
